Concise Digest on Quick Figure Depiction
This is a very helpful little book for those who like to include figures in quick sketches, drawings, or paintings. It is not a beginner's how-to book with step by step instructions, but more of a compact digest of the things you need to be aware of when drawing or painting people. In that respect it is excellent and I it is one of the better art books I own. The discussions of perspective and posture are of great value because this is where so may go astray, i.e., rigid and unnatural figures. I did knock off one star though, because of the page on facial proportions (p 24). The shadow notes are good, but her relating the eyes and nose positions to the top and bottom of the ear is ill founded. The ear is always located in relation to the facial features and never vice versa. When the head is tilted even slightly forward or backward the ear will appear higher or lower in relation to the nose and eyes and is never used to position those facial features. Perhaps she did not intend it to read that way, and it is only a minor point that anyone with basic facial drawing experience will disregard.

Disappointed!
Some helpful 'tips' but certainly not "how to" Learn To Paint People Quickly. Not a step by step guide. Not sure who this book is geared toward. Certainly not for beginners or aspiring intermediates but also not for seasoned painters who already know about perspective and the relationship of figures in a scene. This book seems to be a showcase for her paintings with some text and tips sprinkled here and there. Was expecting something close to her video interview where she talks a bit about brush strokes and color choices. There was a bit more detail regarding painting the face. Overall feel this book is misrepresented as a 'how to' when in fact is a quick survey of her work. Disappointed

This book is not instructional enough.
This book is for “reading” how to paint people but “NO” instructions are shown or directions given. It was definitely quick reading because the book is filled with the authors Paintings. It seams like the author had plenty to say about why you would paint a subject a certain way, but no instructions or directions. I found this a very unsatisfactory instructional book. This is just my Opinion tho and someone else might really like the book.
