Silver Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing is what i came home from the doctors off to cover and help heal a wound on my ankle. supposedly the silver Calcium Alginate keeps down infection. Hard to tell when i had to change them once a day. I really like that amazon sells them too when i run low until everything is cleared up.

Good product, repeat order so many times

Recently I had a bad fall outside at a neighbor's house. One of my injuries was a horribly scrapped elbow. It was nasty. It is a big scrape of at least 4 inches and had hanging skin with lacerations ... embedded with dirt, grit, etc. It was, and still is, horrible. Lots of pain involved. Currently, I am cleaning out my parent's house. I retired in 2004 to care for them full time so they would never have to see the inside of a nursing home. Short story is with all my projects I could not find even a band-aid. I am blessed to have good neighbors who used their own supplies to get me patched up. So I got online and ordered a bunch of patch-up items ... and this was one of them. It took a couple of days before my order arrived. Until then I had to use the neighbor donated super huge adhesive bandages ... followed by a gauze wrapping. I bled for days and the adhesive bandages combined with the Antibiotic Ointment created an environment which caused a weepy wound. Not good. But I had to keep something on it because without a bandage I would drip blood. As soon as I received my package the Silver Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing Pads were what I opened first. In less than 24 hours my wound wasn't weepy anymore and looked so much better. I was still bleeding some, so I still had to wear a gauze over-wrap. But was really impressive is that when I removed the dressing I was amazed to see that the pad had removed the loose hanging skin, along with embedded debris, etc. Let me point out that we really cleaned my wound before applying any ointments, bandages, etc. The cleaning hurt quite a bit, but you have to clean a wound well to keep from getting an infection. So I am more than happy with the way these pads worked ... and are still working. They have been impressive. So why four stars instead of five? My only complaint is someone mentioned in a review that this product is made in China. I have not verified this ... but would not be surprised because it is a known fact that most of our medicine and medical supplies come from China. The United States Government ... AND ... private citizens who own businesses have kicked our Country to the curb for the sake of money. I make every effort to support USA Companies whose products are made in the USA. So, as much as I like these pads, I will look for some that are made in the USA. I don't care if they cost more. But first I will verify whether these pads are made in China, or not. Try not to fall ... it hurts more the older you are!

I have cellulitis on my left leg and dress the wound myself. My cellulitis worsened and I was referred to a wound center, where one time per week Silver Alginate dressings are applied. I continue this process at home until the next visit. The Silver Alginate is drying the wound resulting in less drainage and with its anti-bacterial properties is helping with the healing process. My initial order was placed by the wound center resulting in a bill that was 6x the price for the same strength and size (4x4) product. Since I have not met my insurance deductible, I am paying the bill. I turned to Amazon and found this and other supplies needed at tremendous savings and expedient delivery, so I am regularly ordering until I am healed.

My husband has had veinous ulcers on his ankles for over a decade. Medical treatment produced only debt and no real healing so I consulted Dr. Google. We eventually tried colloidal silver which was of some help, but never quite healed the wounds, then I came across this stuff. It took almost six months of regular treatment, but the original two wounds appear to be completely healed. I just cut a piece big enough to cover the open wound and wind stretchy gauze bandage around the ankle to hold the piece in place.This product can't prevent new wounds from breaking out but at least I hope we have finally found something that will keep them from getting bad. Non-professional advice based on using the product: These are meant to be used as a treatment and not to absorb fluid, so don't use them like a gauze pad. They might stick to the wound so make sure the old patch is completely removed from the wound before applying a new one.

I purchased this for the antimicrobial ahent but it pales in comparison to Aquacell AG. It tears easily and sticks to the wound even after saturating it with saline solution.
