More of the Same, if that's your style.
To start off - I'm a casual Pokemon player, and I have been since Red and Blue. I don't EV/IV Train, I don't worry about competitive, and I don't make 'roid rage Clefables with meticulously crafted Effort Values and Movesets. If that's what you play these games for, I won't be much help. I'm also not a picky consumer - much of the controversy surrounding this game is around the number of Pokemon from previous games that were "culled", and while I'm a bit bummed that some of my favorites aren't in the game, it doesn't offend my sensibilities and I don't feel like Nintendo or Gamefreak desecrated my familial burial site because of it. I bought this game with full knowledge that we were working with a smaller pool of Pokemon. With that all being said: - PRO: Gameplay on the Switch is fun. I've really loved watching the Pokemon series evolve with the systems they're on. The environments are gorgeous, and the world feels more lived in than usual. - PRO: Wild Area, while it has its bugs, is overall a fantastic addition to the game. Seeing other players messing around and just having the access and ability to so many Pokemon so early in the game is great for me, someone who doesn't play competitive, as it gives me more options to use during my playthrough since I'm not concerned about much else. - PRO: The music for the game is fantastic. The gym music really gets me hyped. It's everything 10 year old me dreamed of and more. - PRO: Leveling seems to have been simplified and made easier for ease of use and accessibility. Some of you may hate it. For me, it's time I don't have to sink into superfluous crap. I'm here to game, not take a second job. - CON: For a main line Pokemon game, this feels a bit...short. Maybe it's been too long since standard Sun and Moon and it's the same length it's always been, but to me at least, it seemed shorter than usual. This is exacerbated a little by the lack of "minigames" to me, as I spent a lot of time doing the surfing and other stuff in Sun/Moon. Again, I could 100% be forgetting if Sun and Moon was a little barren as its been a while and I had no major complaints - CON: as a follow up to the last point, not much post game stuff. I think there's battle tower and you can replay a mini-gym challenge, but that seems to be about it. - CON: this one's more of a personal gripe, but the catch rates on Gigantamaxed Pokemon is so abyssmal that you'll want to temper your expectations there. Rates on them are also absurdly low (to even encounter) so if you're someone who wants to collect every version of every thing, you might have a couple years of gameplay here. Overall, I think this is a great game. It doesn't deviate from the formula, and if you like Pokemon games usually, you'll probably like this one.

Pokemon catch em all
Very addictive love the story and seeing older pokemon in the new game. Lot of fun expansion packs are also good.

People who give bad reviews blindly are themselves B A D
Personal Opinions First: (blowing off some steam) Admittedly, I was one of the naysayers saying that the game is pretty lackluster, but I'd be a liar to say that without experiencing the game. So far, it is just FINE the way it is for now. Granted the whole #NationalDex movement on social media, I could care less about catching "all the freaking Pokemon" as Gotta Catch 'Em All back in the 90s. You seriously think most people would be able to keep transferring their old pokemon from the really early 2000s and still expect to be competitive at this time... Get over it, the times have changed. Do you really think that newcomers these days (young and old) want to try to compete on finishing a neverending Pokedex in which they need all the past games to play catch up? Stop that mentality. I'm approaching my mid 20's and I rarely have the OCD need to fill however many pokemon existing here. Games are for all ages yo. What appears good to a kid might not necessarily appeal to us veterans who have played since the Red/Blue days... Objectively Speaking: **The MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE REVIEW** The Wild Area and all the little QoL features have me hooked, and it's much more fun playing with friends/other people interested in the game. There's no absolute need to sway people from one side of the argument to the other, vice versa. Surround yourself with whomever you think has the strongest opinion and let that guide you to make this purchase or not. Graphic details are all right given that this is Pokemon... if the game became like super fine detailed, I'd swear it might go on something like the PS4 or so. Or even, it might not be the Pokemon game I've known (stopped after Gen 3, picked back up after Gen 6 with X/Y) over these years. People are just blowing this whole debate to no end, and it's childish to even keep this rant going (given that a good chunk of the audience might be adult-age by now). I'm sure the developers by now, have heard all of your voices; just give it a rest and let the rest of us who opted to buy the game - enjoy it. Peace out guys.

Great Casual Game
It's a Pokemon game... you know what you're getting. A few tweeks to the story (yes, there is a story other than "collect the 8 things to challenge some slightly stronger people") make it a decent game. I'm not one to mind losing half the dex. There hasn't been a Pokemon game in over 10 years that actually let you catch every pokemon in the game anyways, so this doesn't really affect me or my opinion of this game. The only actually thing I dislike about this game is that it doesn't feel like the second highest grossing video game franchise in history. It feels like a cheaper Chinese knock off. By no means does it always feel like this, but when compared to Odyssey or Breath of the Wild, it feels like they cheaped out a bit. Still very enjoyable, but you can see where they tried to save money. If you dont care (or have the time) to catch all 1,000 pokemon, and dont mind the occasional trash graphics in non-battle areas, and like pokemon, you cant go wrong with this game! If, however, you're very upset that some 500 pokemon wont make it into a game where you wouldn't even be able to catch them in the game, just wait until the mid-generation refresh when they'll bring all the pokemon back (let's be real, the ONLY reason Gamefreak cut all the pokemon is because they want to play the good guy when they bring all the Pokemon back in Sword and Shield). In short, the outrage over this game is overblown in my opinion. It's a fun game that offers the occasional challenge. Perfect for casual play. Here's hoping Gamefreak actually makes a proper AAA game next time, because this certainly isn't that.

it is still enjoyable to catch 'em all with a little bit of shiny hunting. Story is quite dragging though
