This camera is excellent. I bought this camera for my wife after trying the Nikon 3400 which was not NEARLY as good. This is a nice solid camera for the money. It has good features, battery life, and dual slots are very handy. This camera takes wonderful photos and it was great to get the package with two lenses

Wonderful camera for old/new SLR lover
The Nikon D7100 marks my return to SLR cameras after many years with either a cell phone or compact digital camera. I purchased it barely in time or a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Madagascar and had no time to familiarize myself with it. The camera turned out easy to use on the automatic setting, and by the middle of the trip I had learned enough on the go to get some great shots of lemurs with some manual settings. The camera handled the sometimes rough trip very well. As other reviewers had noted, in dark conditions the camera at times had a slight delay, but compared to my small digital camera that delay is negligible. In addition, I was able to take some amazing landscape photos in the non-flash setting, despite the low lighting conditions. I can't wait to really learn about my camera now that I'm back from my trip.

Great Upgrade From the D5100
This camera and lens kit are amazing. The focus ability in low light compared to my D5100 are night and day. You will need to be more familiar with properly using the settings as it is not as 'dummy proof' as the D5100. For instance when using flash it will not automatically drop to 1/250. Make sure to tell it you are using flash for white balance and do NOT leave it on Auto. But if you are looking to step up your ability of taking photos in various environments I would totally recommend this camera. NOTE: It does not come with a lens hood, so make sure you order one if you shoot around the sun.

Merry Christmas to me!
Waited a long time to save up for this camera. Finally the kit came out with the 18-140 lens combo and that was the ticket! To top it all off, I was able to time my purchase so amazon was awarding 4% cash back, giving away a camera backpack and a good 32GB sandisk SD card (not the normal generic amazon SD card) so financially it all was a blessing. As for the camera, I came from a D300. The D7100 is very much an upgrade both in image quality and in operation. Menus are intuitive, buttons are close to the D300's so that I didn't have to learn much, but there is a lot of additional functionality that just adds to the operation to make it easier to use and produce more keeper photos. Body is a little lighter and smaller than the D300 so that is actually a blessing since I don't want to lug around all that weight anymore. Everything fits great in my hands. The lens is exactly what I wanted for a walk-around lens. Covers all the focal lengths I normally use and the VRII allows me to get away with the slower apertures. (When I want to do really critical imaging in low light with faster shutter speeds, I still have my 17-55 so all is good. Highly recommended for the photo enthusiast (although with the release of the D3300, someone who can wait may want to wait until the photokina to see if Nikon releases a D7200!) I'm just glad I got this for Christmas for myself so I could capture all those moments during the holiday season.

More Like an Owl or a Cat in low light
I'm an amateur photographer and the the Nikon D7100 is pricey so I had to think hard about buying it (especially since lenses and other add-ons run the price up pretty fast). I've only had it one day but I'm extremely pleased with it; it has exceeded my expectations. Here's one test I've done in some detail. I was sick of low light performance by my previous cameras (grainy pictures, slow shutter response, basically worthless performance). First evening I had the D7100 I went out in the fading twilight and shot in a nearby public garden (the camera was set on Auto and with no flash). The pictures were superb. The shutter response was instantaneous. The camera took soft autumn colors that my eyes no longer could see in the twilight. Later, inside, I shot a test picture in a dark room with just a bit of light coming in through an open door behind me. My eyes could only see the vaguest of shapes of furniture and walls. The camera took a picture mostly in grey tones that showed all the objects in the room clearly. Again it was set on Auto with no flash so I didn't have to do anything complicated to get the result. The most interesting thing is the room has a wall hanging that is red and the picture showed the wall hanging clearly red. I don't know what owls or cats see in the dark, but this camera is more like an owl or a cat than a human when it is shooting in low light. I'm excited to learn more about what this camera can do.

Very Disappointed with Amazon Jan 13, 2014
The Camera seems fine; Nikon is not the reason for the rating. Amazon advertised this at a reduced price as a very good condition warehouse item. What I got was a different (lesser) lens than advertised. Amazon will not stand by their ad and send the correct lens. They will only refund, very disappointed with Amazon I thought they were better than this. I am sure this great company will charge me to return the D7100 book I no longer have use for.

I HAVE TO BE DREAMING!!!!
After buying a couple of "refurbished" cameras that didn't work we were skeptical to try again but this time we are NOT disappointed!!!!! From the sweetest note that came with a gift to the price is pure perfection. The camera works like I just got it new and is definitely my favorite camera. I never thought anything could beat my Olympus E-3! To make things better I can even use my Olympus lenses and there is no way to tell these weren't meant for the Nikon camera. I truly thank God there's still honest companies out here and He led me to them!!!! Thank you for everything and absolutely phenomenal job!
