Great Game for all ages.

I bought this several years ago (2010 actually, according to Amazon!) so I feel I can speak to the quality of the product at this point. It's held up very well, with no pieces breaking or fading. Assuming you aren't giving this to a young child to drool, stab and otherwise abuse I don't see why it wouldn't last forever (and even then it still might, there are just no promises). The board feels like a standard chess board, not exceptionally strong (so if you have a kid who enjoys throwing things you might do well to have it laminated). The board (quartered) and all pieces come in a metal box (pictured). My only minor complaint is that the pieces are housed in cheap black plastic that feels a little flimsy (though that's hardly a huge deal if you're careful). The pieces themselves are well painted, with obvious attention paid to the small details (i.e., Bowser's spikes). The colors are vibrant (as any Mario themed item should be!). The set could easily be a display piece (my husband collects Mario products so that's what we've done with it). Mario and Bowser are the king pieces on their respective teams, while Luigi and Bowser Jr. serve as the queens (no, I don't understand why either). Overall I'd highly recommend this to any Mario fan who might want to learn how to play chess. Or perhaps someone extra competitive who wants to stab their opponent in the eye with their king piece (Bowser is certainly capable of this).

This set is really cool and the figures are really well made. Careful of the packaging though it comes in a tin which dents easily. Mine came dented but it wasn't bad enough to warrant a return as it will actually be used so it will get dented eventually anyways. The part inside that holds the pieces is thin plastic and the board is less premium than I would have preferred but its worked pretty well so far!

Ooh my!!! The little guy who I bought this for just learned chess in school! So chess and Mario=SHEER JOY!! HIS FACE LIT UP SO BIG WHEN HE OPENED HIS PRESENT AND HE LITERALLY SQUEALED!! And he played with almost everybody who attended the party for hours!! LoL It was worth every penny The quality is great! I thought about other chess sets like the minions which was nice quality too but they were Just two colors. Where is these are a lot more interesting the children because they're painted like the actual figure!! I wish I had a chest that like this when I was growing up!!

Ganz tolles und liebevoll gestaltetes Kinderschach. Mein Sohn hat es als Überraschung zur Einschulung bekommen. Er hat kurz davor unbedingt Schach lernen wollen. Ich wollte gerne ein Kindgerechtes Schachspiel und bin hier fündig geworden. Er kennt super Mario von der Nintendo Switch und ist Ausgeflippt vor Freude und spielt regelmäßig und zeigt es oft auch Kindern die gar nicht spielen können
