Yes, you can! You just have to open the little cover with your thumb as you pour. 

Is this set BPA free?

Hi Nilster, good question. I just looked at the dishes we have and it doesn't say that they are. They only say "made in China" on the bottom. Since they're not advertised as BPA free, I'm thinking it's always safer to assume that they're not. I have to say, however, that my set was probably manufactured before we became aware of BPAs. It's about 14 years old. The kids don't put them in their mouths or eat or drink from them, though.Good luck! Dotti

Why does it say for ages 3 and up? What are the chokable parts? I am looking for play dishes for my 18mo.

My 2 year old grandson loves playing with this set....I feel it would be safe for an 18 month old too!

Would these be appropriate for a 3 yr old or too babyish?

My 2 1/2 year old loves them. She plays really hard and they have taken the abuse very well. I think your 3 year old will get a lot of joy from these toys.
