The Shakespeare 4' Centennial VHF Antenna is a compact, marine-grade antenna delivering 3dB gain for reliable VHF communication. Constructed with durable brass and copper elements housed in fiberglass, it features a high-gloss white polyurethane finish that resists yellowing. Great Antenna
I got this to replace a longer one I had on my boat. I wanted a shorter one so I could pass under local bridges without waiting for bridge openings. Lowering the taller antenna resulted in a loss of reception. I needed a powerful short antenna. In other reviews, people have mentioned the are hard to install because you need to solder the end piece on. It is actually an easy job for anyone that has soldered in the past. There are several Youtube videos that show the process of stripping the coax cable an installing the end piece. I would definitely buy again.

Great antenna, connector install is lame.
Bought this antenna to replace an 8ft one that I busted on a low bridge. It works great and while the range isn't as good as the 8ft obviously I can still get 2-3 miles non line of sight with it and the low output setting on a standard horizon marine radio (the guy I bought the boat from used it on the great lakes, I use it on the mississippi river so we're never that far from a marina/land/other boats). \ The only pitfall is the connector isn't attached (while aggravating its a good thing because you can fish the antenna wire through much smaller openings in your boat). I used a Shakespeare PL-259-CP-G Marine Center Pin Connector which only requires a pair of pliers to crimp onto the cable end rather than the enclosed one which requires cable stripping, soldering etc. Overall works great and would purchase again.

Great antenna, easy install
This antenna was very easy to install, the instructions were great and now I feel much safer on the water. I attached this antenna wire to the old one where the antenna mounts to the boat and just pulled the wire straight through, attached the included connector and connected it to my radio, install was probably 30 minutes.

No connector?!?!?
I should have read more closely. Are they not quite universal? Connector does not appear as a suggested add item.
