Great little fan. It sits on my desk and is often used in warmer months. Our office seems to be colder in the winter and warmer in the summer than the rest of the house, so it's nice to have the fan available. It doesn't take up much desk space and it really moves air. It's quiet too. Highly recommended.

A handy little fan. Bought to replace the little RE fans that Target used to sell for $10. Looking for a 120V fan (so many are USB). This is small and lightweight. Pretty quiet. This sits on my desk in hot weather and gives me a light breeze without being overpowering. This is not for a 'far away' breeze. Little rubber feet on the frame help suppress vibration and prevent it from vibrating around the surface. The only real problem is the on-off rocker switch on the back doesn't really 'click' on and off - it's a smooth movement which makes me wonder it it's easy to flip the switch by lightly touching the back of the fan. And it's a hair expensive - this should be $10, not $20).

I sure wish somebody would make fans like they used to but virtually everything in the personal/room fan market is made the same cheap way these days. I purchased two of these and ended up keeping one of them unused...until last week. The first one was run nearly 24/7 for right at two years with one re-oiling of the bronze bushings about six months ago. Running constantly is actually easier on a fan than always switching it on and off, but still that's a lot of hours, so I can't complain too much. When it died, it did the typical freeze-and-seize that always comes in time, and when that happens if you aren't there to catch it and turn it off, the little thermal fuse inside blows, which kills the fan entirely. Those little fuses are cheap and replaceable if you're willing to do so and can re-tape the motor windings, but that's an exercise of love given the cheap price of a new fan. So these are ok, but literally made the same as most other A/C powered small fans and the motor and switch in this one do not appear to be of any better quality than anything else, very simple parts and design. If someone would just make one of these with sealed ball bearings and an updated cap design for another dollar, they'd have a gold mine once word got around. All that said, the air movement on this one is somewhat weak compared to both cheaper and better/same price fans I've had in the past. It works well enough but if you want to feel the breeze you'll need to have it at arm's length. I think the noise level on this one is pretty low compared to others but it's not silent. From what's on the market now it seems that if you want more air flow then you'll need to step up to a 6" fan size...all the good powerful mini fans seem to be history now. So this is ok but not great, and at least the basic construction is both safe and secure even if the bushings/bearings are typical crap design that will fail with assurance. There are worse fans out there for sure.

First a bit of trivia. There appear to be TWO versions of this fan floating about, and this might lead to conflicting data. One (this one) is the little HNF0410A and the other is a larger one known as HNF0910C. I think this might be why the "Questions and Answers" section lists information which would seem to conflict - two models = two different results mixed together? That said.. Some boring info on the little HNF0410A ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks to be about 5 1/2" tall. About 6" wide (including the base). About 5" deep (if you allow enough room in the back to NOT mash in the cord, etc). There are four little blades blades and each measures about (guessing) 2" x 1.25". Holding the cord in one hand and a tape measure in the other.. about 57" (ish) of cord. Plug is one of those two-piece polarized connections.. Looks like there may be a "fuse" in the plug itself. SPEED: One speed fan - just a basic "on/off" switch on the back. ENERGY USAGE: Kill-o-Watt tester measured it running at an average 11.8 watts for it's single speed. MOTOR TEMP (?): Was running for about 10 minutes at about 80 degrees, with room temp being 71 degrees. Airflow? The Q&A seems to have "There is no true rating for CFM so we have no answer for you" whenever anyone asks for Cubic Feet/Minute, and I certainly can't measure that myself. I just stood in front of the fan and held up a piece of paper. Doing that, I could feel a very very very (very) light movement of air at six feet out. The pages on the tiny calendar stuck to the side of the refrigerator were being "lifted" at two feet out. So if you want to Feel A Breeze try to stay within 2 1/2 - 3 feet of the fan. For myself, I am testing out one of those NuWave PIC single burner cook tops, and I worry about long term effects of steam/stuff boiling up from pots on the NuWave. Might the rising steam (over time) make the nearby cabinet doors "unhappy"? Best to nip that possible problem in the bud and just blow any-and-all steam AWAY from the cabinets and out into the kitchen proper. For that purpose, this little fan looks to be more than up to the task. If one wants a stronger fan than this, then move up a size from this category (Personal) to one of the smaller fans. As I own several Vornado fans, I did look at the tiny Vornado fans, but after reading those reviews purchased this Holmes fan instead. It looks to have been a good purchase: Small footprint, decent airflow for the task, metal construction, low wattage, etc. I have one of those Triplite "eco power strips" with six independent on/off switches, so I am leaving the fan switched to "on" and controlling it from the power strip.

Great little fan but only lasted a little less than years before them motor quit. Not too noisy, but noticeable noise level. Served its purpose well, but hoped it would last a little longer for the price paid.

Lasted 8 years, I'm buying a replacement today! For the last several years I've used it on my nightstand every night. It always stayed however I aimed it and provided a good breeze with just enough noise to be pleasant and promote sleep rather than keeping me awake. It's gone up in price since I last bought it but still worth it if the new one lasts as long as this one did!

I have had two of these little Holmes "high velocity" desk fans for years. The oldest one, probably 7 or 8 years old (likely older, I received it used), just died after years of excellent "high velocity" service. Because both of the fans I've had were excellent little "high velocity" fans, I wanted to replace the expired one with the same little fan. After ordering my new Holmes desk fan, my order was "lost" and I had to order a replacement for the lost order. When I received the little fan, in appearance, the exact same fan, I was quite disappointed in the velocity which was much "less" than the two older fans I'd had for years. In a strange twist, the "lost" fan finally arrived many days later. But, again, even with this "lost" but finally delivered fan, I was disappointed in the velocity of the fan. One of the two new fans had a little more velocity than the other, yet even that fan was significantly lacking the velocity compared to the two older fans I'd had for years. Based on my experience with these two newer fans, it would appear that the product is no longer of the same quality in velocity as the older fans. The difference in velocity is SIGNIFICANT between the two older fans and the two newer fans. I cannot recommend these newer fans because of the significant lack of velocity. Maybe the two new fans I received were "lemons", so to speak, but I'm not willing to try for a third one. Two stars were given because the fans were very quiet, operationally, and not at all distracting. UPDATE: I am returning the 2nd Holmes fan...it simply does not function to even the lowest expectations. I am replacing it with "efluky" 3-speed mini desk fan (at less cost). The ONE speed on the Holmes fan that I am returning has even LESS velocity than the replacement "efluky" 3-speed mini desk fan has at its LOWEST speed! And the "efluky" 3-speed mini desk fan has two higher velocity speeds!
