I for one never cared about the Disney movie or the original fairy-tale itself. Yet I was drawn how the mangaka took the concept and gave it a more grounded and realistic approach to this romance story. I remembered reading the first chapters online a few years back and was surprised to see VIZ finally publishing the manga in English. The story focuses on the young woman Shirayuki, a strong-willed, up-and-coming herbalist known for her unusual bright red hair. The young man Zen, a prince of the Clarines Kingdom who likes to sneek out every once in a while from his duties. Kiki, the elegant, young female royal guard to prince Zen. And finally the young (yet eldest of the trio) and tall man Mitsuhide, also a royal guard to prince Zen. The pacing of the story on this manga starts off slow. It is the first volume of course, so it takes its time to establish the setting of the story, develop the characters and build up the chemistry between them. But by the end of the last chapter, the protagonists are charismatic and lovable to watch. And Sorata Akiduki's art style is gorgeous to look at. The characters expressions show a delicate charm, and the details that Akiduki goes for her backgrounds are just beautiful to look at. I'd often stop reading for a moment and just stare at the wonderful scenery and the amount of detail the mangaka goes for the characters clothing. I loved reading this manga so much. It's a great shoujo manga that takes the concept story of Snow White and takes a realistic approach to it. The characters are lovely and the art is gorgeous to appreciate. I can't wait to get my hands on Volume 2! Review: Good series - Great, thanks

Um, it's been a while, and just now I decided to leave a review...is that legal? (Heh, kidding.)
I got this back in August 2025 as a birthday gift for my younger sister. She was happy. I'm 14. (Unnecessary information, sorry.) I earn my money the hard way, but even still, this book is typically priced, as far as shojo manga goes. As for quality? Perfect. No damage, came on time. Well worth it. If you are new to the story, I think you'll like it. The artwork's great, the story...well, I won't spoil anything. It's shojo, so you know what you're getting into. .... (Excuse me while I slap myself) Sorry, for those of you who don't know what shojo is, it's basically...manga for girls. They usually involve relationships. Um. Did you find that helpful? Anyway, I recommend this book! But you don't need my recommendation, do you?! Go make your decision and don't double-check your choice! Best wishes either way! (Don't worry. I didn't tag a photo that spoiled the book by showing the pictures.) P.S As I stated before, I got this for my sister. But I read this series too. So it worked out well, eh? (>_I)

Refreshing medieval fantasy
Art: ★★★★☆ Story: ★★★★☆ The only aspect that this story has in common with Snow White of western lore is the main character's name—Shirayuki—which literally means "white snow". Her hair color is the catalyst for most of the events in this volume, though she strives to carve out a path of her own choosing in life. Sometimes, the uniqueness of her hair color takes choice away from her. What makes Shirayuki an interesting character is how nonplussed and levelheaded she is when faced with those situations. In homogeneous Japan, red hair has become a trope now in shoujo fantasies. I have a redheaded daughter who eats those stories up because so many heroines deal with discrimination due to this hair color. Red hair may not be an oddity in the western world, but it still uncommon. In shoujo Japan, red hair takes on near magical aspects. The heroines are persecuted, shunned, or enslaved because of it, then they overcome their hardships and embrace their hair color as a symbol of power. We see some of the same trope in this series, but eventually the hair color is no more important for Shirayuki than the clothes she is wearing. Her personal convictions, not her hair color, ultimately drive the plot. Strong characters and a light-hearted romance carry this story along. The anime was far more nuanced and detailed than the story in this volume, which began life as a one shot. Sometimes, the story is too lighthearted when issues of kidnapping, slavery, or homicide are glossed over. However, I enjoyed seeing the origin of one of my favorite anime.

Must read and watch !
I started watching season 1 on Hulu and instantly binge watched the entire season in one day which led me in search of season 2 which is only on crunchyroll unfortunately. So I bought both seasons on Blu-ray because I was hooked ! This story is pretty close to my all time fav visions of escaflowne ! It has everything a dram-rom needs ! I definitely recommend this series ! After watching season 2 I bought the entire book series and already preordered book 26!! I don’t want to say any spoilers but I seriously hope they continue the tv series to season 3 and beyond and cannot wait for many more books past 26!!! Watch it !!! Read it !!! You will not be disappointed !!!

Main characters are intelligent. Love the supporting characters. This story is about proving who you are is more important than what you look like
