How to eat vegemite
Package arrived in bubble wrap in excellent condition, a great tasting gluten free vegemite. A comfort food for those who grew up on it. For anyone else trying it; this is a salty savory type taste ( think more soy sauce than jam) and should be spread very sparingly. One favorite way to eat it; take toast, put on a lot of butter, then a small smear of vegemite, not even covering the whole piece of bread. Also often eaten in a sandwich topped with a slice of cheese. Do not put it on thickly like peanut butter: that is not how to eat it, and imo that would taste terrible.

Gluten Free! Good Alternative to Marmite (which has gluten)
I never thought I would say this, being a Marmite lover for decades, but Vegemite isn't bad at all. I discovered I have a gluten sensitivity, and Marmite is made from the leftover yeast from beer making, and beer is based on gluten loaded grains. So I was kinda stuck unless I could wrap my head around eating Vegemite, so I decided to try it after all (it's gluten free!). And whaddayaknow, it's actually good! Now we use it for flavoring rice, soups, etc., where we used to use Marmite. Well, some of my relatives may disown me, but I'm happily switching to this Aussie product. Huh.

I am Australian,if you are not. Be very cautious. You won’t like this. Ha ha. But we love it. And this one is fresh and yummy.

Finally a gluten free almost version of a childhood favourite and an adulthood necessity.... It is a sad day without buttered toast soldiers with Vegemite with my soft boiled egg.... (Sorry Marmite you have let me down petal) Thank you Australia I love you🩵

Finally, GF Vegemite!
This is GF but the low-sodium Vegemite doesn't come GF. Still, oddly, I find this less salty even though it's not billed as low-sodium. Vegemite is healthy (B vitamins) but definitely an acquired taste. Once acquired, however, it is addictive. And a little goes a long way, so a jar lasts quite a while.

Horrible Taste
My spouse saw a movie set in Australia, and suddenly, she got it in her head that she just had to try this product. I just happened to have a buddy in the Army that was from Australia and he loved the stuff. He challenged me to try it, so I did. IT WAS HORRIBLE! The overwhelming saline taste caused me to choke for an hour. I will never do that again. But now my lovely lady was trying to convince me to get her some, so I finally broke down and ordered it. After receiving it, she put half a teaspoon of the black goo in her mouth. Instantly, she raced to the kitchen sink and started ejecting and rinsing her mouth frantically. I refused to kiss her for two days, just in case a minute particle could still be in her mouth (just kiddin') If you're not Australian, Don't Do It...

Must try the spread from down under
Step 1: Grab your gluten-free toast (I chose poorly, but what I had at the time!) Step 2: toast the bread Step 3: butter the bread (or use margarine, but I prefer butter) Step 4: using a butter knife, take a small portion and spread thinly and evenly on the toast while warm. Eat while still warm!! Crucial. Enjoy! Overall, I don’t know how Vegemite is supposed to taste other than slightly malty, but I’ve avoided trying it for years because standard Vegemite is full of gluten and I get gluten induced headaches. This stuff doesn’t give me a headache and was definitely savory. Would I recommend it? Yes, but have a few friends try it with you! The container is larger than you’d think and goes a long way. Thanks Vegemite for finally offering a Gluten-free version, and for having a distributor here in the USA!
