Great inexpensive winch.
Excellent winch for the price. I have this one on the front of my Yamaha 400 Kodiak. Works far better than expected, but won't do miracles or cure stupidity.

This is the 3rd winch I have bought of this same model from Wal-mart and all 3 have burned up motors. This winch is not worth taking out of the store! Remember,(with a winch, you get what you pay for.) By the way,I have never overloaded this winch. And just as you can imagine anything (tool wise, motor wise, and etc. from Wal-mart just how good it might be.It was $70.00 plus tax at Wal-mart and I replaced it with a Champion Winch from Tractor Supply, for only a few more dollars, and it is 10 times the winch. So if I were you, I would not waste my money on this Master Lock Winch. Worth the money. Not for heavy use but great in a pinch.
Good for the outdoor enthusiast who needs a good winch occasionally.

Good for the price...
I bought 2 and use them for opening/closing my shed doors (drawbridge-style). The good: Switch is substantial. The not-so-good: They are S-L-O-W! You'll also need a roller fairlead otherwise an off-center pull can jam the cable between the spool and body.

Life Saver
To make long story short I mounted this on a Suzuki Ozark 250. I was out on some NFD trails in Capital Forest west of Olympia WA. While on a ridge I went around a corner on some loose gravel and slid off the road. Luckily the ATV got hung up on some small trees or it certainly would have rolled down the ridge. I was able to pull the cable from the wench to a tree on the other side of the gravel road and slowly pull the ATV back onto the road. So am I impressed with this product? Words can not describe. If it weren't for that little wench I would have had no other way to get my ATV off the side of the ridge. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Highly recommended.

Buy harbor freight brand.
I gave it two stars because it only lasted 1.5 years before the motor quit on it. Save your self a headache a buy one from harbor freight at least then you can get a 2 year warranty and get a brand new one with out paying full price on a new one with in that 2 years.

Pretty good
I bought this for my boat. I use it to winch my dinghy up and down on the davits. Works perfectly for the job, and its small size is a bonus.

Very happy! I bought this for a friend who has a van that's been adapted with a fold-down wheelchair ramp. The ramp is fairly heavy and hard to manage by hand. When the old winch gave up the ghost, he tinkered and tweaked (to the tune of $190), but to no avail. I went to Ukrainian Tire (Canadian customers will recognize the reference) and bought a replacement winch, which turned out to be (a) wrong-sided, so the cable was feeding into a pulley at a bad angle, and (b) impossible to mount without taking hammer and tongs to it because the mounting holes were round, not slotted and there was no room for adjusting to the existing hardware. The Master Lock 2955AT did the trick, perfectly. It's clearly more heavily built than the original winch or the first replacement, one of the mounting holes is slotted so there's room for adjusting to existing hardware, the cable came out on the proper side, and ... the big deal is ... it handles a heavy ramp without complaining! The first time we pulled the ramp up with the 2955AT we realized that every time we had done so with the old winch, we were hearing a grinding, whining noise that meant that the old '1500-pound' machine was working beyond its real limits. Smooth, slick, easy and logical to install and wire up. I'm delighted.

decent and works well. wish they included a nice hitch plate adapter with it. the plate they include is terrible. they should have one with it included and charge $30 more.

Junk. Very slow action and doesn't stay locked. Used it on my atv to lift the plow blade. Blade kept dropping because brake doesn't work and cable snapped 3 times on the first use. Old winch lasted 8 years, this one only one day. I didn't install it right away after purchase so return window closed. Save your money, it's crap.
