Q: Where are the " rotating cobalt magnets" that are mentioned in the item descrition?

When I installed mine in a 1972 Vette with a 350 cu ingine there were no rotating magnets in the installation. The 1181 has a ring with magnets that attaches under the rotating weights and through the distributor rotor. I found this below on another site and copy/pasted it here. This PerTronix 1181LS Ignitor Delco Lobe Sensor 8 cyl (Part No. 1181LS utilizes a lobe sensor. Lobe Sensor Ignitors can sense the lobes on the distributor shaft points cam as they go by without physically touching them and trigger the coil circuit accordingly. I would recomment contacting PerTronix directly. Their number is 800-827-3758 |

1969 DeVille points conversion

The point on my 69 DeVille had about 8,000 miles on them, and thankfully stop working in my driveway. I made the swap, along with the matching coil, any paid a mechanic to adjust the timing. My car runs great. I noticed from a cold start, my car start easier. I definitely recommend this item.

Excellent replacement part

Installed one of these 22years ago when I restored my 66 Pontiac lemans. It was getting tired noticed by how many revolutions the engine had to make before it would fire. Installed the new one and the engine starts immediately now.

Got my 69 SS396 running again.

Easy to install, and works perfectly. My 69 Chevelle SS396 would not run at all. Existing points were trashed. Replaced with these with ease.....no dwell angle to mess with. Great product and excellent support if you have any installation questions.

Installing a PerTronix Ignition in my 283 Chevy, make sure if you engine was 8 cylinder using 1.5ohm coil, it's working very well .recomand!

Upgrade now, you won't regret it

If you're still using points don't hesitate and buy this now! I thought I bought the wrong one but I was lining it with the wrong holes. Easy install and a world of difference. Also swap coil and adjust spark plug gaps. Using on boat, chevy 350

Throw your points in the garbage

An excellent upgrade on my 68 Cadillac. Install is super easy, check the timing, put the dist cap back on and forget it. Well worth the price. Cheaper than the tow home when the points burn up.. ask me how I know haha

Works very well!

Installed this 1181LS Ignitor in the original Delco points distributor (which was not removed from the engine for the install) along with the PerTronix 40011 Flame-Thrower 40,000 Volt 1.5 ohm Coil in our '66 Beaumont, fired right up first time. Works very well, no more points or ballast resistor to worry about. Trickiest part of the install was feeding the wires down through the base of the distributor but with a little patients the wires fed through the new grommet supplied. Checked engine timing before & and after install, no adjustment needed. Highly recommend this upgrade.
