Picked up Loctite 574 for my XLT1200 skis while doing two full engine rebuilds. It was the sealant everyone kept recommending, and I kept hearing it’s commonly used on Porsches, so I figured it was worth a shot. I’m glad I did. It applies cleanly, stays where you put it, and seals up tight once the surfaces are clamped together. After assembly, everything torqued down nicely and I had zero seepage. It also held up great around oil and coolant exposure, which is exactly what I needed on a fresh build. If you’re doing a rebuild and want a reliable flange sealant for rigid metal mating surfaces, this stuff delivers. If it’s good enough for high end engines, it’s definitely good enough for my Yamahas.

This is amazing stuff. It doesn't harden unless pressed between two metal surfaces. Used this stuff to rebuild my Porsche air cooled engine and have zero leaks now. Be warned, this stuff is the consistency of snot and it only takes a very thin layer to do the job. I bought a small foam roller from Home Depot to get a uniform thin layer on the cam towers.

I only purchased as the factory manual says it is required when reassembling certain components. Considering I'm working on a 40 year old car, the fact that it did not leak after using this product is proof that it works as indented for the specific application I can't comment on general use My only negative e comment is the packaging. The plastic tube is quite stiff, and squeezing it to get the correct amount out was challenging.

Used it to reseal a balance shaft housing on my 1987 Porsche 944, worked awesome and haven't had any leaks whatsoever. Just make sure the surfaces are totally clean before applying, I used mineral spirits and carb cleaner to clean the mating surfaces. Just run a mild bead and let the housing squish out the excess, trying to roll it on or smear it after applying just makes a mess. This stuff is designed to wash away in hot oil so don't worry about excess getting squeezed out. Would use it for any metal to metal sealing.
