Nesco BJG-6, Jerky Spice Works, Cracked Pepper & Garlic Flavor, 6 Piece Set

I purchased this after trying it at my Mom's house over the holidays. Being that my guys LOVE beef jerky, it was a no-brainer. The extruder is easy to use, just like a cookie press or a caulking gun. With the larger sized, I can usually get slightly more than a pound of ground beef into the tube. Each of the attachments work great with very easy clean-up. The original seasoning is perfect and not overly salty like some jerky can be. I also purchased the Garlic and Cracked Pepper seasoning. Tasted almost identical to the original, just more peppery but very good. I plan on using ground turkey next. This is designed to work with the dehydrator, but I use the oven. Instructions do not give the heat setting other than to say "low". I bake on a large nonstick cookie pan, in a 195° oven for 2 hours and it comes out perfect every time! One trick: half way through cooking, blot grease off of meat as much as you can with paper towels, flip the strips over and roll the tubes. Doing this will ensure even as much moisture will bake off as possible giving you a better result. The jerky can be stored on the shelf in an airtight container away from light and In a cool place or in fridge/freezer...although it's never lasted that long in this house!! Highly recommended for all jerky lovers!

I ordered this and the original flavors, both worked out well but I liked the original more. I used this as exactly as I could to the volume of weight and it did seem a little extra salty - I know Jerky is supposed to be salty of course but if I had one and only one complaint it would be regarding that. Next time I'll try limiting some of the salt and see how that goes, but either way I do recommend this product it's very easy to use and tastes good. Oh, I used this both for ground beef (using a jerky gun) and for flank steak pieces. -D

This is my favorite flavor and is what everyone is used to. Have tried other brands when I could not find this in the store and regret it. It is a mild flavor and is good to use when making jerky or sticks. All NESCO flavors are great, as family likes the Teriyaki flavor. For best results would recommend letting set overnight after mixing, covering with plastic wrap in refrigerator. Would also recommend using beef at least 85% or less. It will come out dry, if you don't. Using the NESCO dehydrator, it runs around 165 degrees. Rotate the trays as the lower trays dry faster, and turn the jerky as it dries. The round NESCO dehydrator is not efficient at making best use of tray space when making straight lengths of jerky, but they now make a new square model, recently purchased, and has adjustable temperatures. Added a small amount of water, makes it mix easier.
