Fast shipping, fare price, the only problem is getting to the starter on the back side of the engine on a 15KW generator. You need to cut a 12” square hole in the back side of the generator enclosure to get to the starter and then securely seal that 12” hole back up to keep the rodents out, or they will eat up the wiring. But now that you have an access hole in your Generac generator enclosure, you can change the starter in 30 minutes. I hope this information helps you guys out, Glenn

I used this to replace the starter on my 15KW Generac LP Standby generator with the 992cc engine (Model 04390-3). This was a much less expensive option than the OEM starter. Hopefully, it will be reliable. Interestingly enough, I installed this generator about 15 years ago. Within a few months the starter Bendix failed and it was replaced under warranty. It has started without a problem all these years until last week when the Bendix failed again. This starter is an exact fit for the original. Replacing the starter is a very large job if you dismantle the housing which I started to do and desisted very quickly - it is a major undertaking! I decided to cut an access port (8"x8") with a grinder (30 minutes). The actual replacement went quickly after that. I replaced the piece that I cut out and fastened with heavy duty duct tape for now.Hopefully, this starter will last as long as OEM one. I will update if it doesn't.

This starter motor may look slightly different than the one being removed from the generator but there was no problem mounting it. First, it arrived sooner than promised. Since installation it had been cycling each week as programmed and last week we had a power outage for 4-5 hours and the unit started right up with no issue. So far, I'm a "happy camper". My particular Generac (12 years old) has been great since installed but the original cabinet did not provide access to the starter, so I cut-in my own access panel right thru the side of the wall opposite the starter, then when I was done, I mounted the removed piece of metal to a larger piece of sheet metal and screwed it over the access hole. MUCH easier than anything I've read about from other Blogs with the same issue. The price for this starter is the biggest plus, too.

Wow fit well..but on the generac 16 k these starters are a messy location to replace..I just cut the back and replace..fit well and start smoothly with also a new battery for home standby generac

ordered this Jan of 21'... it lasted till July of 22'. I just ordered another one because its cheap and maybe this time it will last longer

Included pics so you can reference what generator I put this on. Note that the new starter is shorter than the OEM, but otherwise is an exact bolt on, some as the old one. It is shorter at the back, so the additional support bracket on the back of the starter is not used. Bolted on and tested within 10 mins. Cranks this big motor faster than the other one ever did. Long term, I cannot speak to the reliability, but 5-stars unless it proves me otherwise when I need it to start :-) For the price, I dont think you can go wrong here.

The motor barrel on this starter is larger in diameter than the OEM, and it will NOT fit in a standby generator using the 990/999 engine.
