Perfectly cooked eggs every time
I bought this egg timer to replace the one that I used for over 20 years (it broke when dropped). It acts like an actual egg, changing color as the temperature increases and reaches the inside of the timer. I originally bought it when I moved from the midwest to live at an altitude over 5,000 feet. The high altitude causes water to boil at a lower temperature. Using this egg timer, my hard boiled eggs took longer, but were perfectly cooked. I highly recommend this egg timer. It takes the guesswork out of making eggs and also shows you when the eggs are thoroughly cooled.

HOW TO PREVENT YOUR EGGS FROM CRACKING (and a few other tips about eggs.)
I’ve used this egg timer for years and I love it. For various reasons I didn’t cook any hard boiled eggs for a while and I couldn’t find my egg timer when I recently wanted to use it. So, I bought a new one from Amazon and it works perfectly. (It does not have any smell that some purchasers have complained about.) Of course, I probably don’t have to tell you that about two weeks after I received the new egg timer, I found my old one. :) Here is a tip to prevent your eggs from cracking when you boil them; After placing them in cold water, bring the water to a boil. Then, turn the heat down enough so that the water stays hot but it is no longer boiling. Leave the eggs in the hot water until they are cooked which takes about 12 to 16 minutes to make hard boiled eggs. Alternatively, if you don't want to stand at the stove waiting for the water to come to a boil, you can bring the water to a boil, then turn down the heat and place the eggs in the hot water. Do not turn the heat completely off and leave the eggs in the hot water. If you turn the heat completely off, it'll take too long for the eggs to cook. When you leave the eggs in the water this long, the water will penetrate the shell because an eggshell is porous. This causes the egg white to completely stick to the Shell when you try to peel it. The reason the eggs crack, is because when the water is at a full boil, it causes the eggs to bounce up and down on the bottom of the pot. By turning the heat down to a point where the water is not boiling, you avoid this problem. HERE'S ANOTHER LITTLE TIP ABOUT EGGS; Eggs will stay fresh for a long time. But, after you've had your eggs in the refrigerator for a long period of time, how can you tell if they're still fresh? Here is one quick and easy way; fill a glass with water. Then, place the egg in the glass filled with water. If the egg sinks to the bottom of the glass, it's fresh. On the other hand, if it floats, it is no longer fresh. The reason for this is that the eggshell is porous. This characteristic, overtime, allows air to get inside the shell. As a result, when air gets inside, the egg will float. 2 MORE TIPS; 1. If you want to make it easier to peel off the shells when your eggs are finished cooking, be sure to put a tablespoons of white vinegar in the water that you use to cook them. (Vinegar helps to break down the tough inner skin so that it does not stick to the Shell.) When they're finished cooking, hold each egg under cold running water as you peel it. The shells should slide right off. 2. If you put some unpeeled hard-boiled eggs in the fridge next to some raw, uncooked eggs, and you forget which eggs are the ones that are hard-boiled, here is how you can tell which eggs are the ones that are cooked without cracking them open. All you have to do is place the egg on a table or counter top and try to spin it. If it spins freely and easily, it is cooked. If it is uncooked, it will be difficult to spin because of all that raw egg sloshing around inside of it.

15 year customer, it works
I was given this gift in 2010/2011 and have used it all the time, for it works. I bought the product because the one I was gifted wore out after 15 years of use. I did a product name search online, and Amazon sold the egg timer. . With Christmas approaching great stocking stuffer. GREAT Product for it works, easy drop in the water then all you have to do is look at the color, it works. I am a buyer that forgets the time to cook for each type of egg, thus dont have to find a cookbook to find the correct time, just drop the egg time in water.

Egg Timer is an Egg Saver
I LOVE this product! It is one of the first things I bought when I started cooking more for myself and now I just bought another one for my sister after she over cooked 2 dozen eggs for easter (NASTY!). I'm the type of person who is always paranoid things aren't cooked enough when cooking anything like eggs, chicken, beef, etc, But this product tells you straight on, what state your egg is in (soft, medium, or hard), so you won't get one that's over boiled or almost raw. It's so simple and easy to use but absolutely ingenious! You just drop it into the water with your eggs, and as the water boils and the eggs cook, it begins to change color. It starts turning black at the rims and continues its way inwards as eggs get harder. Once you see the black from around to whichever type of egg you are trying to make (soft, medium, or hard), clearly written in the middle of the timer, you just turn off your stove and they are ready! Sometimes I turn it off a little earlier because the eggs continue to cook a little if you don't take them out of the boiling water right away. This timer is shaped like half an egg. The bottom is flat so that it doesn't move around/flip over in the water. It is always clear to read/see, even in boiling water. People may think you can just use a timer to boil eggs, but that is still a guessing game. You can set ANY timer for eggs, set it to X amount of minutes and you will have eggs. But other things can change the effectiveness of it, i.e. lower/higher flames. So its really a guess of how much time you would need to boil an egg until its just soft but not raw, or over cooked. But that's the best part about this item it's not really a timer. This tells you EXACTLY what is going on in the egg because it is actually cooking like one. So there is NO GUESSING! I will admit, I love gadgets! Some of them are really useless or unnecessary but this one I could not live without! I would not love eggs as much. And such an awesome product for under $10? It's a must buy. It makes a great gift for weddings or house warming gifts too. People are always interested in it when they are left on their own to boiler their own eggs, haha. And they always end up loving it.
