We now have three Microsoft Surface Tablets. One for each member of the family.
If you are an Apple, Mac, or iThing fanatic, stop right here. You will not believe what I say and will probably get insulted. Sorry, I want an OS, not a religion. This is the third Surface I have bought. I bought the first Surface RT the day it was released by making an appointment at the Microsoft Store in Lenox Square, here in Atlanta. There was a long line but there was a sign that said "Appointments". I walk up and gave my name and had to wait five minutes (I was early). Thirty minutes later I walked out with it. The day the Surface Pro was released, Mr. UPS Man came to the door and delivered mine. The first Surface RT is now used by my son at Georgia Tech. The important difference between the Android or iThing tablets and the Surface is the ability to do actual work. The Surface RT comes with MS Office 2013 pre installed and activated at no extra charge. With the kick stand and the removable keyboard it can do most of what the majority of people use a laptop for. If you have other needs visit the App store. The Surface Pro is actually a full Intel powered laptop running Windows 8.1. In addition to being able to run the Apps used by the Surface RT, it can run almost any software that will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and of course Windows 8.1 . All of this in a super light weight tablet size with a beautiful touch screen. But this is about the newest Surface RT. My wife decided she wanted one for her birthday so that is what she is getting tomorrow. It will complement here Windows Phone 8 and here Dell laptop running Windows 8.1. I will probably be getting rid of her desktop workstation as she never uses it any more. Also, this one was super inexpensive as its replacement the Surface 2 is already on the market. The 2 has some neat new features but for the price.......

Microsoft stinks
I purchased this product in june 2013.......worked ok for awhile, then I started having problems with it. When I bought it, I didn't get the extended warranty, I've wasted a lot of money on those in the past. So when I called in the first time, I tried to purchase it then, but they said since I hadn't purchased it originally, I couldn't do it now. Customer service was always there for me during the year warranty, but every time I called, they put me through the same long period of trying things......it would work for a period of time and I'd call them back. same thing again .....over and over until my warranty ended. Makes me wonder if they did this because it was defective, and since I hadn't purchased the longer warranty, they just pacified me until the warranty was up. I would think when a purchase is for 500.00 if there any defects, they should be found and fixed the first year. Mine has a definite problem that was noted the first year....it should have been fixed or replaced during that time period. I've been using it since then, with the annoyance of having to reset it all of the time. Games never played well on this constantly locking the tablet. So my only deduction is that Microsoft must produce junk, or you'd better purchase all of the warranties they recommend. I am a senior citizen, who is computer challenged and living on social security. It took me awhile to save up for this, and I'm stuck with it. I am now saving up for a new one, but it will take me awhile.. You can bet your bottom dollar what I purchase next won't come from Microsoft...... BOO......HISH.....Microsoft...shame on you.

Is ok but some quirks
I own an I-pad but when I travel that has limitations. I needed a small portable semi-computer with a jump drive. This Surface serves this purpose very well. I have found that if you use the screen as a touch screen, it is often less than responsive and at times clicks on the wrong link. Very frustrating! This does not happen with the i-pad. I also find that to power off the computer you have to go through about 3 procedures just to power down. It really is a pain. The reason I got this is because this is working very well for my daughter who uses this in court (as a lawyer) and it can link to all her documents on her desk top at home so she doesn't have to drag paper docs into court. Only what is necessary. So I got this because we are often on the road and we need to perform word docs and capabilities as if home. Now one thing that I don't like is that the only browser on the surface has only Explorer. We had our IT person try to put on firefox or chrome and it would not let him do it. So haven't figured out if I am stuck with Explorer. For now I am. IThey have come out with a more updated version 3. They may have taken care of some of these quirks but at a much higher cost.
