Punch! ViaCAD 2D V6 [Old Version]

I could not make it work. after five days I could not even draw a line and dimension it.

I thought I was...I found out there's more time needed to learn this software than I wanted to give it. It also had major problems with my Mac OS (leopard) until I called them and received the latest version free. It seemed to work well but I didn't give it enough time. I paid a designer instead.

I used the software on a Mac Pro. An excellent CAD Program, especially considering the price. Printing is best done by printing a PDF. Once I had a PDF file, it was easy to print just the sections I needed from the Mac OS. Apple makes printing easy. Does not come with a printed manual. This requires (environment damaging) printing yourself. The registration and activation process required to use this software is cumbersome, and time consuming (it is similar to installing Windows OS in that regard). You are forced to divulge unnecessary information (name, phone number, e-mail address, physical address, country). You cannot install this software without Internet access. This may be important for users in remote locations. Conversely, Apple will sell you an entire operating system with none of the above hassles. One of the risks in purchasing ANY software where registration and activation is done over the Internet is that should the company go out of business, is sold, (or just lose interest in the product) you may find that you can no longer use it after changes in your software or hardware. This is because the software will not work until it has communicated with the "Mother Ship" again and authorized (we hope) your use of the software. A simple serial number should be all that is required. The actual CAD part of the software is good. I have used many CAD Programs (some over $4000) ViaCAD does 98% of what the very expensive alternatives do but for a fraction of the price. Highly recommend, good technical support, they answer e-mails!

I was looking for a drafting program that was Mac compatable and fairly easy to use. I'm pretty pleased with this program, although it does have quirky ways to to some things. I rated the program 3 stars, but I may increase the rating after I use it more.
