One of the greatest directors of the 1980s, John Landis (The Blues Brothers, Trading Places), expertly combines macabre horror with dark humour in the lycanthropic classic, An American Werewolf in London.American tourists David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) are savaged by an unidentified vicious animal whilst hiking on the Yorkshire Moors. David awakes in a London hospital to find his friend dead and his life in disarray. Retiring to the home of a beautiful nurse (Jenny Agutter, Walkabout) to recuperate, he soon experiences disturbing changes to his mind and body, undergoing a full-moon transformation that will unleash terror on the streets of the capital... An American Werewolf in London had audiences howling with laughter and recoiling in terror upon its cinema release. Landis film has gone on to become one of the most important horror films of its decade, rightly lauded for its masterful set-pieces, uniquely unsettling atmosphere and Rick Bakers ground-breaking, Oscar-winning special makeup effects. Now restored in 4K, and presented with an abundance of extra features, this big beast of horror can be devoured as never before... Just as good 30 years on - This was the very first 18 certificate movie I ever went to see, when I was 15. It has everything, great story, performances (especially the delightful and gorgeous Jenny Agutter in arguably her best adult role), humour, horror, sex and proper (at the time ground breaking and cgi free) special effects. It's just a great movie all round. Timeless. Other reviewers are correct that the video is a little grainy but I'm sure this is how the movie was 30 years ago and I like it true to the original. I feel other reviewers are missing the point, or just discovering this movie for the first time at a young age and already spoiled by todays digitally perfect HD offings. Rather than detracting from my viewing pleasure, having turned out the lights I found the small amount of grain helped transport me back to the flea pit of a cinema in East Dereham all those years ago and reliving the excitement and anticipation of it all. Like hearing your first vinyl album again, somehow it just isn't the same digitally remastered without the plops and crackles. All I was missing was the uncomfortable flip up cinema seat with chewing gum stuck to the bottom and cigarette smoke lighting up the projector beam. The very much still alive and great John Landis at his very best. If you like your horror more light hearted and with a good helping of humour, this movie is not to be missed. Simply a classic, grain and all! Review: Satisfied customer - Excellent DVD, arrived safely, in stated timescale, An American Werewolf in London is one of my teen daughters favourites and can’t wait for her to unwrap at Christmas!! Couldn’t get it anywhere in Brighton-many thanks

An essential collectors item for fans of the film !
Another fantastic release from Arrow Video. The package itself is very high quality with a reversible sleave, a book with loads of interesting stuff in I didn't know about and some great artwork. It also has a poster inside. This product is a must have collectors item for anyone that is a fan of the film. Picture quality is very good to say how old the film is. It's the best it has ever looked. I watched it on my LG OLED and colours were punchy and the picture quality was nice and sharp. There is grain still but that's because it was shot on film so pretty normal. Overall a perfect package. The artwork on the box makes it worth it alone. 100% recommend. 10/10

Restored & Most Complete Version, Plus all existing extras.
"An American Werewolf in London" (1981) ARROW, Blu Ray, Restored Version (including all extras from previous non-Arrow releases) 2019. Has reversible sleeve, using the original cinema poster, which I switched to, so the Mrs will recognise it, for future viewings. Region B, so requires a Multi Region player outside of UK/EU territories. Aspect Ratio 1.85:1; uncompressed original Mono English, or DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio, soundtrack; with English Subtitles. Sound quality, and music, excellent. Sold & delivered by Amazon UK; new, authentic, shrink-wrapped; at a very fair price of £9.00 - less than older releases, new and some used. Arrived pristine, no damages to case or disc. Although this is a Restoration, including some minutes removed from the theatrical version, and apparently supervised by Director John Landis, I imagine the negative he had to work with was nothing more than typical for low budget films of the time (US$5.8 million, for this film.) But the footage CUT to achieve an "R" Restricted certificate in the USA, such as the wolf attacking the homeless living along the River Thames, are NOT included(and no information as to whether the footage is lost, unsalvageable, or withheld.) There are only a few silent OUTTAKES. Image quality is acceptable to good, but looking to me like best quality VHS - without the dropout, or tracking lines. The lengthy change, to Make-up expert Rick Baker's version of the werewolf, remains the best ever. Purchased for the Mrs, who desired it, having only seen it on VHS, once, via defunct Blockbuster video rental, and found this enjoyable. I am reassured to know, from the end titles, that this film is entirely fictitious! *Highly recommended for fans who want the complete film, all previous extras, at the best price. (A remake has been in development since 2009; and a sequel, "An American Werewolf in Paris", was made in 1997, which we enjoyed in HD, on TV, but which was not successful.) If you like this sort of shaggy wolf story, I recommend The Howling (1981), directed by Joe Dante(Gremlins) and which has special effects by Rob Bottin(RoboCop); but I never saw the 7 sequels. Also, one of my favourite films, Wolfen (1981) from The Wolfen book by Whitley Streiber, starring Albert Finney, real wolves, and an atmospheric, to intense, score by James Horner; and some pre-Predator thermography style film effect.

An essential purchase for fans of this picture
What started out with a slow burn at the box office has become acknowleged as a modern classic, and its groundbreaking makeup effects have not only become the stuff of legend themselves, but stand up remarkably well to the test of time. This edition has been beautifully restored and looks pristine on the screen. I'm not going to remark on the film's content, as it has such a cult following, other than to say that the script, like the technical presentation, has aged very well indeed and never feels dated (although it is obviously in-period). The disc contains an absolute wealth of bonus material, including two separate narration tracks, both of which are fascinating and amusing. The accompanying feature documentaries alone are worth the purchase cost. An outstanding disc, considering both the quality of the transfer and the accompanying materials.
