I had one of the old fashioned timer switches with all the little buttons on it. Was well passed it sell by date and in need of upgrade. This appears to have done the trick. Quick easy install, took the old one off and swapped wires into new one. Looks much cleaner and modern. Connected to wifi with no issue (just make sure you have your wifi 2.4ghz. if only 5ghz shows up then you have to go into your router settings and change it so both 5 and 2.4 are visible) easy one button control. App is 'smart life'. Easy to connect and then synced up to google assistant. Seems to be good quality from early impressions. Fit is good and I was able to use previous devices inner wall bracket to attach

I wanted to control my storage heater using my energy providers new tariff; Agile Octopus. This tariff goes on market price and unit price changes every 30mins, this sometimes goes negative meaning I get paid to use electric. The heater has two power supplies one on peak and the other off peak supply. The problem I had was the off peak supply is set on installation and I have no way to control it. by simply disconnecting the off peak supply and fitting this timer in its place i linked the on peak / permanent supply across to this this timer. Now I have the power to turn on and off the heating elements when i like. Agile tariff provides an API that you can link to IFTTT with a trigger; Energy price lowest for duration between say 12am and before 6am. now my energy supplier turns on my heater for me on the cheapest rate of electric which changes every 30minutes on agile tariff. Installation took me about an hour of reconfiguring the the two FCU outlets and getting a basic connection established. The unit is a typical Chinese style with no earth connection point? I assume conforms to some safety standard. Upon opening the box 3 brass terminal screws flew out across my kitchen so beware! perhaps came loose in transit but just be mindful. the terminal are quite small and not as robust as maybe a typical uk outlet but non the less they do the job. After installation connecting to the app was simple but annoyingly you have to connect the phone to 2.4ghz and not 5ghz band which I can imagine with some basic routers provided by your isp might proof a little tricky for the average user but non the less on my asus router was ok. the only snag was signing into the account for some reason, when I went to link the smartlife app to ifttt account you sign in via weblink and it kept saying my password was wrong. I updated it three times with no luck. In the end resetting the password via the weblink worked??? obviously some bug that needs to be fixed but worked with alexa and google service sign in after so not to painful. Now the ultimate question how long will it last? time will tell.

UPDATE 9 months after installing this switch, without ever a problem, I had to change my WiFi router. The connection quality hasn't changed and I'm still able to turn the switch on using its Android app, but after less than 5 minutes it goes dark. No led/light on the device is on, it looses connection to the app and it takes about 20 seconds to auto-restart. There were no changes to the wiring or anything else, just the WiFi router. Now I wonder how to return it... I'm 99% satisfied, as this makes it so easier to set the timer for my immersion heater. The problem with the old mechanical one was that it is placed in an odd position and it was a nightmare to re-program, not to mention that I couldn't change the schedule if I came home early. It works great with Smart Life app and Google Assistant, I have no idea if and how it works with Alexa or other apps. The problem with this is that it does work only with a reliable connection to its cloud. If anything goes wrong, the schedule is simply skipped. And the shutdown it's an independent schedule, meaning that if it gets the turn-on schedule right, but fails to turn-off, it's going to stay on until next turn-off schedule, less than ideal, so I suggest turning on the notifications for every schedule, to be sure that you get notified on your phone if anything goes wrong. If they allowed setting a single schedule that would turn on the switch at a given time for a given duration, that would entirely solve the problem. Without this small setback, it would be a full 5 stars product.
