Great Microscope for Middle School or beginner scientist.
I ordered 17 of these microscopes for my 8th grade science class. The overall build is solid and comparable to most scopes I have had students use in the past. I really like the LED light and the ability to adjust the LED as well as the diaphragm. This gives you two options for adjusting the light. The objectives seem to be of good quality and the stage has a nice distinct end stop that makes it clear when you are at the end (no soft feeling). For the price the 5 MP camera is fantastic and takes great pictures. I agree with another reviewer that when in live mode at the 5 MP the view is a bit choppy so moving specimens under the best resolution doesn't work well but It far exceeds the quality of any microscope that I used in this price range! I like the battery mode that makes them mobile but you need an allen key to open the battery case. The only two small draw backs are the cord and the eyepiece. The cords are very thin and I worry about them long term being able to hold up to the wear and tear of 8th graders. The eyepiece is removable which is great but it would be nice to have a locking screw to hold it or the camera in place (kids like to play and touch everything). Never the less they are great beginner microscopes so you can't compare them to a microscope that is 4-5 times the cost and and the price is about 1/2 of what they were a few years ago!

Good, with limitations
Build quality is good for the price. Optics are good, at least for the two lower-power lenses (didn't try the other). However, my specimens are mounted in diamond-polished epoxy mounts about 1/2 inch thick. Because the stage (surface that holds the slide in most usages) cannot be moved (it is fixed to the microscope body and base) I am unable to move the lens far enough from the specimen to focus.

Great starter scope for kids - with adult support
This is a very nice student microscope. I served as a science coordinator for a large school system and these are the type that we bought for schools. Wide-field eyepiece makes it easier for kids to find the image. The microscope is sturdy, but should be used with adult supervision until the child knows how to use it properly. Good light source and objectives. Coarse and fine focus controls. Swivel mount for the eye-piece barrel which allows observers to share the view without moving the microscope and disturbing the object on the stage. The video camera, which wasn't available when I purchased them in quantity, is a great addition. Children (and adults) can have a difficult time locating an object on the stage or recognizing what they are seeing. Being able to see the image on the screen helps the adult demonstrate or to confirm that the child has located the target object.

Although Microscope Survived, a Battleship was sank. Please tell me I can get a replacement digital optic better than 2 MP.
Supercool. One complaint. Fell out of a hand stand onto the microscope breaking the digital optic. Thus far, my only option, I can only find a 2 MP digital optic to replace it. Unless I purchase a whole new microscope for just the 5 MP optic. I shall write to AMSCOPE. Hopefully, they can work something for me. It would be super cool if they had an even more advanced optic. I note there exists a date on the optic, 2014. Maybe it shall end in an upgrade. The software is super easy to use. --Mice Ons Sun, Joshua, Tripping, [Mouser), Garland, Apoc, her Switchness, T., Kaiser Sose (You should have fed me more so my clones can stand when I do in the same room.), Longfingers, Perfect, ONOTU, antisystem1789, aka. ... for a home-school science course I'm teaching and am satisfied with my purchase
I purchased this microscope (Sept 2015) for a home-school science course I'm teaching and am satisfied with my purchase. The microscope meets all my needs and is certainly better that what I've used in my classroom before. The software certainly does more than what I need for teaching elementary-middle school science. I do wish this came with additional instructions as there are extra parts in the package I can't identify their function. I've taught middle school science for 10 years and haven't seen these additional parts before... To calibrate the digital scope measurement, you do need to purchase a calibration slide (TS-M1 micrometer) which was not included in the packaging. I'll make due with a clear ruler, but that obviously will not suffice for the more advanced user! I just want my students to get a sense of magnification and relative size of objects. As a side note, AmScope says the shipping weight was 8 pounds, this is shipped via UPS with a shipping weight (they said) of 5 pounds. Shipping to Alaska shouldn't be that expensive and I certainly wish shipping options include USPS. $68 for shipping this microscope is pretty ridiculous, but I suppose that's the cost of living up here.

The camera is not working like as I see at Amazon
The camera is not working like as I see at Amazon. I could not get colored image. There is no sufficient documentation. I have a great disappointment.

Defective product. Company not stepping up.
The usb lens was defective when delivered. I tested it on 3 computers and none could detect any device using the provided software or device installation in computer settings. I've been through all the documentation available online and nothing addresses device not being detectable. I am still dealing with company to replace it. Customer service clearly ends with the sale.

Best bang for your buck
Good affordable package for entry level microscopy. Works well for checking red blood cell health. Maximum 1000 magnification is sufficient for this type of usage. Good packaged deal considering 5mp camera included and can connect to computer or monitor for ease of viewing

The microscope itself is great. I wanted it for semen evaluation. Using it via looking through the lens worked great. The But.... part is the main selling feature, the camera, it is useless to me as there was no software that came with it and the link to download the manual and the code they give you, neither were available on the site. I could not find the model number that it says on the pamphlet that came with the microscope and there was no where to add this special code. I purchased this product for the camera as my eyes are not as great as they use to be and using a larger screen to evaluate was a big win for me. Sadly I will be returning this microscope.
