What is the red wire for and what is the yellow wire for?   I think the red wire is for power, but not sure what the yellow is for?

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the yellow wire in particular. The blame goes to Thinkware, because the instructions they provide with the direct wire accessory cable are utterly useless. THE CAMERA WILL NOT TAKE POWER VIA THE YELLOW WIRE. There is confusion here because, when you use both the red and yellow wire, you connect the yellow wire to a point where 12VDC is switched on and off along with the ignition/ACC, and some people are evidently inferring from this that if you don't want for the camera to operate when the ignition is switched off, that you should connect the yellow wire and ignore the red wire. WRONG. The camera will NOT ACCEPT POWER VIA THE YELLOW WIRE!! In fact there is a simple logical way to figure this out, because if it worked that way, there is no possible way that the automatic parking mode feature could work, for people who connect both wires. THUS, you always, always, always connect the red wire. The yellow wire is optional. If you want the camera to operate in the vehicle while the ignition is turned off, you connect the red wire to a point where 12VDC is present even when the ignition is off. If you do not want the camera to operate when the ignition is off, then you connect the red wire to a point where 12VDC is switched off whenever the ignition/ACC is switched off. So what's the yellow wire for? It is for one thing and for one thing only: so that the camera can automatically switch into and out of parking mode, when the ignition is switched off and on. This is all it is for. If you have no interest in this feature, then don't bother with the yellow wire. If you want to use this feature, connect the yellow wire to a point where 12VDC is present when, and only when, the ignition/ACC is switched on.

Is there a way (other than pulling the fuse) to ensure the camera is fully powered down when the car is off?

Hi there, The camera will automatically power down once the G-sensor no longer senses movement. If the camera is hardwired into the vehicle I would suggest checking the setting to ensure the camera shuts off after the battery reaches 12V. Hope that helps! Young, BlackboxMyCar|Amazon Support Team

My kit's red wire has the black snap-on peice labeled "const"  this is opposite from the photo above. what color wire is acc and what is always-on?
