This antenna performs. Although, it does stress the mating areana little.
This antenna definitely increased my handheld's range. Installed, I was picking up signals 30 miles away without a repeater in an urban area. Note, truthfully not everyone needs this but it is nerdy cool. And one last note, this antenna is considerably heavier than a 15". Use care while handling.

Seems to improve range
I have not done any scientific tests but these antennas do seem to improve range and transmission clarity on GMRS. I can say with certainty that these are an improvement over the antennas that come stock with the Baofeng UV-5R gmrs. The antenna works while folded or unfolded. I do notice an improvement in range when the antenna is fully unfolded. The biggest advantage I have found to these antennas is that I can stick the radio in my car door cup holder and extend the antenna out of the window and I get far better range than with my antenna inside of the vehicle. The flexibility of this antenna is the only thing that makes this possible. Overall I am happy with my purchase and I ended up purchasing a set of these for two other people in my family who also use GMRS. I have folded and unfolded this antenna hundreds of times at this point and stuck it out of a car window and the antenna has suffered no damage or noticeable wear. For the price these are seem to be a great value and if you are having trouble with range in your area are worth a try.

Kinda Goofy. Decent Build Quality. Good VSWR on 2m. Barely Usable VSWR on 70 cm.
I always thought these tacticool antennas were a bit goofy and gimmicky but based on the generally good reviews I tried a pair of them. I still think they're kinda goofy. They look silly on a tiny HT such as the UV-5R Mini. The long heavy antenna with a lot of inertia is the tail wagging the dog. There is a serious concern. The long stiff antenna can impart torsional loads that could break the RF connector on the HT so be careful when handling an HT with this long antenna. I wouldn't recommend running through the woods whacking brush with this antenna. I consider this antenna to be mostly useful when stationary and even then, perhaps as an alternative to the hassle of hanging a twin lead J-pole antenna to get more gain compared to the fairly awful short stock antennas on most low cost HTs. I'd avoid sudden acceleration of the HT that could torque the SMA connector when connected to this large antenna. I used a VNA to sweep the 2 m and 70 cm bands. These are mostly 2 m antennas. They're not very resonant on 70 cm but probably won't harm the transmitter. Antenna 1 2 m SWR: 1.4:1 to 1.04:1 70 cm SWR: 3:1 to 2:1 Antenna 2 2 m SWR: 1.6:1 down to 1.2:1 70 cm SWR: 4:1 to 2:1 One of the reviews claimed these antennas work well even when folded. That didn't sound right to me and the SWR sweep confirmed it - generally above 6:1, which is unusable.

Great antenna
I use these with uv25X4 and they are dinomite I can hit repeaters at 2 miles, 18 miles, 25 miles away no problem. I can talk radio to radio at 18 miles with a uv82hp handheld nobody would believe it thought I was using a big radio. I have 3 on my go bag one on a packet radio other 2 one on qyt 8600 other on a tyt9800 All of them work great. No problem with any of them. I like the quality they are a good buy. I have one of the btech copies and it works as good as the real thing. The 18 inch baofeng model is good but not as good as the longer one. They are almost as good folded as they are full length. 73s all KK70AV

It's a great Value for the money and quality.
The best product for 2 pieces included in all brands that I've worked with in this combo packages. SWR was the bestaudit with a 2 meter in a 1.22-1.44 .

A most have for SHTF situation.
Well build and a most have for SHTF situations. The lenght helps with connection and range.

Bigger isn't better. For general use, the included whip will pick up better.
95% of you don't need this, and have no use for it. Big does not equal picks up better, its for certain bands and ham-heads. Yeah, it will pick up some weather, but barely. Not for common channels, notice the "dual-band" is actually a restriction on the ranges its supposed to work on. You wont be reading this if you get it. If you're reading this, you don't need this. Five stars because it does what its supposed to.

Poor quality control makes these Abbree antennas a brand to avoid.
Purchased a pair of these to use on my new Baofeng UV-5R Minis. One antenna fit fine, the other would only screw on half way. I may have been able to force it on but I didn't want to damage my radio. I tried on three different radios, the two new Minis and an older UV-5R, same result. I returned them and ordered a replacement pair. Wouldn't you know the exact same thing! One fits perfectly the other only goes about halfway on. Returned them also. Looking for a different brand.
