Q: The needle valve isn't very good. The bubble count drifts often. Is there a way to manage this? Or change out for a better needle valve?

I don’t have that problem with either of mine. The needle valve is a secondary regulation device. Try adjusting the primary regulator valve down. This will reduce pressure to the needle valve.

Q: I just set up the regulator. But i see that even with the power off, bubbles are coming out of the bubble counter. Is this normal?

No. That is not normal. The solenoid should shut off the flow completely. However, make sure you do not have the regulator pressure set too high. The regulator should be set to the lowest pressure that will allow bubbles to flow. Mine runs a little over 20 psi. If the pressure is set to high, the solenoid might leak.

Q: what size wrench do i need to tighten this regulator onto the bottle of co2?

I just use an adjustable monkey wrench on mine. You don’t have to tighten it incredibly tight.

Q: would I need a stand-alone check valve when using this regulator with an inline diffuser?

The manufacturer says the bubble counter has an integrated check valve. So no. But I would!
