A Course in Miracles Made Easy: Mastering the Journey from Fear to Love Review: Overview intro to ACIM for newbies - I love that Alan reads the book himself. You really get a feel for his demeanor/attitude and energy as he's reading. He shifts back and forth between referencing ACIM material and his personal insight on it and how he applied it or related to it in his own life. Overall, I think this is a great intro to what ACIM is. His voice is calm, inviting and the book is absorbed well when listening. Review: Alan's no Dummy! - I found Alan Cohen about the same time that I found the Course in Miracles--back in the early 80's--when one had to send to Tiburon for the books. Alan came to a Unity Church in the SFBay area from time to time, offering his own unique brand of fun, inspiration and wisdom. In case some readers are unaware of this fact--Alan is Very Funny! He could make a living as a stand up comic but he has a higher calling. He's also extremely nice. When we were doing some kind of group process that involved hugs, he noted how strong my heartbeat was and wrote an inscription to his book mentioning my strongheart. :-) Since then I've been to a number of Course in Miracles groups, conferences, workshops and read many books and articles by Course scholars. I have to say that out of all of them, Alan is the best, for me, for bringing the basic message of the Course home in ways that are accessible. He makes me want to practice it. Some scholarly types have sent me away with a headache. The Course can really be intimidating to people, especially those who plunge straight into the Text. (He advises something I've also found, that it's best to start with the Workbook.) Alan is very wise but he doesn't stand on a remote podium of intellectualism. He is not stuffy! He, like Jesus, being so soaked in the actual truth of the words, is able to speak to the "common person" in ways that are real, that reach the heart. Being funny doesn't mean that he is superficial or silly. He is de-lightful but not a lightweight. He has practiced the Course for decades, once lived in a commune where the Course was practiced on a daily basis for over a year. He knows what he's talking about. ! For newcomers to the Course as well as old timers like me who need a refresher, I highly recommend this book! I have to think that Jesus would love it! F

Filled with clarity and easy to follow
I had read Marianne Williamson's book "A Return to Love" in the 90s. It reasonated with where I was in my spiritual journey. This book brought me full circle and has sparked my interest to take the Course.

A Great Place to Start
This is an incredibly helpful and hopeful book! It encouraged me to read A Course in Miracles, and it is a resource to go back to if I get stuck. There are also free YouTube videos by the author talking about each chapter. The book has many practical ideas and demonstrates those ideas in various stories. It is worth buying a personal copy.

A Must Read
Four quotes from the last chapter of this book speak a lot about what ACIM has to offer: "The greater part of humanity ascends the stairway to heaven one step at a time." "The ego is preoccupied with the future as an escape from the present, while the answer to all questions rests in the holy instant." "Inner peace is the only benchmark of progress in the Course. Absence of peace is a call to keep practicing." "When you are hooked on peace, there is no returning to war. When healing is more attractive than pain, you do only what heals. When you want freedom more than bondage, you take any and all steps necessary to get and stay free." I first anticipated this book would help translate the complicated wording in ACIM, but it doesn't and doesn't need to. He explains about ACIM in such a way that it made me want to read and study the Course without worry or fear. Cohen also adds in mini commentaries about how ACIM was created and its guiding principles. He says, "You don’t have to understand the Text. If you understood the Text, you would not need to study it. If you do not understand the Course with your intellect, you have not missed anything....Do not allow lack of intellectual understanding to stop you from completing the Course. All the understanding you need will be given you precisely when it will serve you best." He goes on to say, "The goal of A Course in Miracles is not behavior management. It is consciousness upgrade." Cohen does a great job emphasizing the core take- aways from ACIM, ie, love, Spirit, God's will. "Ultimately there is only one miracle: the shift in awareness from the tyranny of fear to the healing presence of love." It is not Cohen's intention to translate the ACIM Text. He states, "Study the Text in the way and order you feel guided. Every sentence contains the essence of the whole. With the exception of the Workbook Lessons, the material is not necessarily linear. Feel free to go to different sections of the Text and Manual for Teachers as they call to you. Or just open to any page and get the message you need to hear. The Text, although apparently intellectual, runs far deeper than the mind. When you study ACIM, you are immersing your mind in a consciousness, not just information. The goal of the Course is to attain a state of awareness. Studying the Text will take you there as you feel guided." Cohen explains the ego and its projections very well. He asserts through proven science, "...your body is more liquid than solid, physically and metaphysically, constantly re-creating itself according to the current stream of consciousness you are holding. When that stream changes, so does the body." He also comments that, "Jesus’s consciousness was so rooted in the invulnerability of Spirit that those around him were lifted to the expansive realm in which he dwelled. When they attained resonance with that frequency, they were healed." This statement coincides with David Hawkins, "Power vs Force" - another great author, who even comments on ACIM's level of self-reward. Cohen also uses quotes from ACIM to back up comments. It is obvious that he read and knows the ACIM text well. Alan Cohen is a fabulous author. Easy to follow and doesn't go off on tangents. This is the first book I have read from him and I am looking forward to reading more.

Alan is truly a wonderful writer. Not only does he write with humor and clarity, he also has a deep understanding of his material. I love reading a few pages before I go to sleep every night.

A very clear explanation of the basic concepts of ACIM. It has been very useful for me and I think it can be also very useful for all those who want to approach to ACIM

So much more accessible than the original Course In Miracles, and for me a better read than the similarly targeted book from Marianne Williamson. I enjoyed reading this, whereas reading the original felt like an obligation.

This may sound silly but this is one of the most perfectly written books I've read in my life. I can't think of a single negative point. It helped me understand the course with the perfect balance of clarity and humour. NO filler or redundancy like so non-fiction books out there.

O livro atendeu minhas expectativas de ver sobre outra perspectiva as ideias do UCEM. Existem exemplos bem interessantes ao longo do livro, aprendi e me inspirei muito.
