There are reviews of people complaining that the knob moves. They need to use a pair of end nipper pliers to remove the clamp that is on the shier and also to tighten down the clamp that is included with the new shifter. After tighening the new clamp it does not move at all. There are videos out there that show how to remove and install almost this exact product. I think this is a great replacement for the worn out boot and knob that I had on my Golf. Installation was very easy after watching a video on how to do it. The quality is great considering the price.

Chinese shifter and boot. It fit perfect, installed super easy and functioned perfectly. The only issue was that is smelled bad. Chemical smell that eventually went away.

Easy to install, just make sure you have a crimper. It’s not a perfect copy of the original (the numbers are a tiny bit fuzzy), but it works like it’s supposed to. For the price, you can’t beat it.

This is the second lever of this style that I have installed on our 2001 Jetta (the previous one was installed 5.5yrs and 50k miles ago. For the price, it is a good looking product. The boot material held up well on the previous one, but it slipping off of the gearshift post. Looks like this new one will probably have the same issue. The problem is that it doesn't sit down on the gearshift post far enough to reach completely over the stippled area where the knob would catch a firm hold. For this installation, I added a small amount of silicone adhesive/caulk to try and help give it some grip once it cures. Time will tell how that works. So why give it 3 stars and not something lower? If you're in a pinch, it does get you pretty far for the price. The looks are good, and it will do the job...it just won't fit exactly like the OEM one. Seems like this is something that could be easily rectified at the manufacturer...just need to tweak the design a little and it would be a no-questions-asked great replacement. Without those changes, though, I'll be spending the extra $$ for an OEM replacement the next time this knob slips loose. I wish VW had used a screw-down shift knob design in these cars, instead. Or, maybe I can drill a hole through the base of the knob (under the boot) and gearshift post to fit a spring pin, too.

For the price - you can't beat it. Super easy install (15 min or less) and fits perfectly. Great replacement for OEM shift boots that wear out and look terrible. The shifter knob is nice and the chrome ring gives it a nice touch. I would recommend this to anyone.

Just don't leave your year-old yellow Labrador with a tennis ball obsession unattended in the car whilst you have lunch or you will come back to one gnarly, chewed-up shift knob. The first one lasted only a month before I ordered a second, and learned to take the dog (big sweetie, can't get mad at him...it's a ball, after all!) in with me.

The item came damaged… it appears to be super cheap brittle plastic or someone was throwing it. The plastic cap that sits on top was cracked
