Pretty decent wire!
This is pretty decent wire. All copper, none of that garbage aluminum stuff. The sheathing is tough, and this would be good for outdoor applications. The only downside is that stripping the ends cleanly can be a bit tricky, like with UF cable. I found that using the next size up on my stripping tools left just enough material to where I could score and remove the ends without damaging the strands. After I did this a few times it became much easier. Very heavy duty and good quality. Do NOT cheap out. Get this stuff.

Solid Cable, Great Sound, Great for Outdoors!
We recently changed our family room carpet to Luxury Vinyl Plank. So, I could no longer hide our surround sound speaker wires under the edges of the carpet. We have a concrete foundation. They only idea I could come up with was to make outlets in the walls, go through the walls and run the cable around the outside. So that's what I did. I had about a 60-foot run, so I wanted this larger 14 gage wire. I also wanted all copper. This cable fit the bill perfectly. The sound is great. The cable was easy to work with. It has great outdoor protection. I used banana plugs on the ends of the cable inside the boxes. This way it makes for an easier install as well as removal. I sealed off the entrances on the outside walls. ON one wall the cable you see in the picture is still it's original color. However, I do plan to use some touch up paint that is closer to the stucco color to make it even less visible. On the other wall I used some sheathing over the cable just because I thought it would look better. I used silicone to hold the cable up out of site under the sliding door and the wall bottom around the patio. I am confident that this installation will last for many years.

Tips and hints to prep this cable
Overall, this is a decent product that appears to be durable and rugged enough for most applications. My intent is to use the cable for outdoor venues where it can withstand water and dirt as some portion will be buried to avoid any tripping hazard. I bought the 14 gauge, 2 wire, 250’ brown PVC sheathed cable and cut it into (2) 90 foot sections and (2) 35 foot sections to drive a speaker array. Now, here are the tips that might help when prepping this cable! When stripping the sheath only LIGHTLY SCORE it as it’s super easy to cut into the inner cable’s insulation. After scoring, just bend the cable sharply at the score and it will crack open…keep working it until it separates. (You may have to use a small set of cutters to nip the last bit open.) Make sure the wire insulation didn’t get nicked. The cable coming off the small spool is wound very tightly and has a “memory” that immediately goes back to a tight coil once it comes off the spool. No amount of “unwinding”, pulling or cursing will get it to comply as a nice relaxed and straight cable. Next tip: APPLY HEAT.. OK, so how to do that? I took each coiled length individually and placed it on a large pizza pan, set the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, then put in the oven for at least one hour. Longer cable lengths like the 90 foot sections take about 1-1/2 hours as there is a considerable mass to heat. The idea is to have the heat penetrate through the outer PVC jacket and heat the wires inside to the same temperature. Wear gloves when removing the wire from the oven and lay the cable out straight. Keep the gloves on! It’s not super hot but you’ll find that the cable is quite compliant, almost rubbery, and you can readily wrap it like a regular rubber jacketed speaker wire or ready it for install it in whatever application with ease. Hope this helps!

High quality product, outstanding customer service!
This high quality cable was exactly what I needed. I purchased a moderately expensive low voltage lighting set that came with generic 14AWG direct burial cable. That would have been fine, but I needed to mount the transformer inside my basement, and since the cable passes into the interior of the house, it needs to pass the CL3 requirements for fire resistance. I contacted GearIT's Customer Service Department just to be sure the cable met the fire safety requirements, and also that it can be used for low voltage lighting (it's called speaker wire). The rep responded to my email immediately and cited the fire rating standards and confirmed the suitability for 12V landscape lighting and interior pass-through. She even gave me a few additional cautions about making sure I don't exceed a 15 amp load (transformer is 10 amp so I'm good on that), and also took the time to comment on my overall plan in terms of the number of cable runs and their length (which could cause voltage drop if they were too long). The cable arrived quickly and appears to be very high quality, with CL3 markings on the jacket and a small spec sheet showing the CL3 rating. Some people comment about the cable being too tightly coiled when it is removed from the spool, but I didn't encounter that issue at all. I'm really impressed with the GearIT product, and their Customer Service Department is one of the best I have ever dealt with!
