This is a good cylinder and I love the height it adds. I viewed the installation instructions and watched some videos, but I did not have an easy time installing it because my chair was old, grimey and dusty. (The label on bottom said 2003) Tips if your chair is old like mine. 1. To get the existing cylinder out of the chair, you may need to whack it HARD. I used a 5lb sledge and a block of 2x4. Even then, it took SEVERAL hard whacks, putting all sorts of dents in the wood block. 2. Use an adjustable pipe wrench to unscrew the cylinder. The teeth on mine were leaving marks on old cylinder and it wouldn't budge. I eventually applied WD-40 at the top and that loosened it up enough to come off. There was a bunch of rust inside. 3. Once you install the new cylinder, you will have to pop off the plastic cover under the chair and adjust the set screw so it doesn't sag. After I did this, it worked perfectly.

Take a look at this product, it is well worth the purchase. For a taller chair seat, this does the job. It was a better and more sturdy lift-tube than my old one. It put my feet, knees and hips in a more neutral position for better comfort. Less cramped = more Comfort. A word though: it is an easy install once the old one is removed. Removing the old lift-tube can be tough.

worked great, finally have a computer chair at the right height for myself

No dislikes, but I do have to admit: I was very surprised as to how tall this made my chair sit. I didn't think that this unit would raise my gaming chair as much as it did. The lowest setting just barely allows me to get my legs underneath my computer desk. But at the highest setting, the seat is actually higher than my desk. It's actually quite amusing. Fortunately I have 2 chairs, so now the chair with the new unit is my new movie chair and the other is my computer desk chair. Wouldn't change it though if I could go back in time.

If you want to take a regular desk-height chair and turn it into a counter-height chair then its perfect but it is too tall for a desk-height chair. I was hoping that I could use it all the way down for sitting at my desk, then raise it up when I raised my desk, but it is too tall when all the way down. My feet don't touch the floor. I am 5' 11" so I am not used to my feet not touching the floor when I am seated. Removing the old one was a chore. I put some anti-seize into the base and mechanism when I installed the new one so that the next time it won't be so hard. I expect that the cylinders are the most likely thing to break on a modern office chair so I figure I'll replace the cylinder every few years. I ordered another one that is a little smaller and think I will return this one when it arrives tomorrow. I might use it on a padded shop stool that I have which would be better if it had a longer stroke cylinder but we'll see.

This says it will fit in most chairs. Also says it's 2 inchs. Doesn't fit. Won't come down to where you can actually sit in the chair without your feet leaving the floor. Absolutely ridiculous that I have to return this and now have no chair to use. Furious..

I have purchased many things from Amazon, but this makes me the happiest. I am a 6’2” video editor, so I spend a lot of time at my desk. I have a great office chair from Amazon, but the issue was that I could not get the desk to chair heights ergonomically correct. The mismatched height resulted in backaches that I had to constantly counter with exercises and pain killers. The choice was to find a lower desk or somehow raise the chair’s height, I chose the latter. This cylinder raised my chair to the height of a stool, a height to high even for me, but it lowered to the exact height I needed, where my thighs are parallel to the ground and my feet properly aligned with the floor. If you are on the fence and have a similar issue, just buy it, you will not regret it.

Installed this in a Herman-Miller Aeron that I've had for years. As a 6'4" man, no office chair is tall enough for me by default and crooking my legs under the chair was starting to cause me some muscle issues. This was relatively easy to install (though you need an 18" pipe wrench and a solid mallet) and it doesn't look like adding only a few inches to the travel will help much, but it has made ALL the difference for me. 100% worth it.

Product is good and height increase is 8 inches but the info in image provided about height and increased height is wrong. It is 10.5 inch in normal and 18.5 in extended
