What I've come to love from Amazon
I feel like every time I go to a retail store I'm always shocked at the high mark-up on cables, these cables aren't that expensive to make and honestly I just don't like paying for a brand name. These cables are cheap but work exactly as you need and are of good quality in my opinion. I purchased two of these for a new phone I got and they've worked out perfectly for charging and transferring data between the computer and the phone. The length is just right to give you some extra room, and the cables aren't flimsy and don't feel cheap. There are of course cheaper cables available, but with these I feel Amazon always delivers something that's both a good price and good quality, and the shipping is quick so you don't have to wait for a month for a cable to come from Hong Kong. Pros: Low price Good quality Cons: Not the cheapest available cables

Good product at a good price
Update: After several months 2 of the 3 cables I was using went bad and stopped charging my phone. My daughters phone also uses micro-USB and also did not work for charging except for the 1 cable that was still working. So, I was able to confirm it is not just a problem with my phone charging port. The one that kept on working is still working over a year later. So I'm reducing my review to 1 star. Reliability is above everything else in a basic utility type of product like this. I paid more to ensure I had a quality product. It's unfortunate that was wrong, and on the Amazon name as well. --------- Original Review: I bought several of these cables, primarily for charging, but also for data transfer via USB to computers. I've been using them daily for charging at home, in my car, and on the go (I pack one with my laptop so I can charge in a pinch). I mostly pair them with general wall or cigarette lighter plug-in USB chargers, though obviously they can be used with normal USB ports as well. The new USB-3 ports that are 'always on' regardless of whether the computer is on or awake are especially useful. My family uses these cables on multiple phones in our house that have the Micro B USB connectors. I can't comment on the data transfer capability with my wife's or daughter's phones, but it works fine with my LG Optima Android phone, so it has the additional wires required for this function (not just the power wires). While it's a bit more expensive then some of the other wires out there, it was worth paying a little premium to guarantee good build quality and a product that will work out of the box every time. The quality of the cable and connectors is easy to see and feel, while not being so bulky it gets difficult to bend into the positions you want for laying your phone down while it charges.

Seems legit
haven't had it all that long but so far , it works . It charges , it transfers data and it gives a lil' extra length over the cable supplied with our DROID phones . The cable is clearly thicker and more robust as well . This should help to extend life and usability . The connectors are gold plated which is also clearly an improvement over the standard cable . I would also note that the strain reliefs on this cable are rather stout too which is beneficial in prolonging it's user life while minimizing the inner cracking /breaking of wires from being bent and connected in odd / precarious angles . As a side note though , when i ordered this initially i was of the impression it would arrive in 2 days per my PRIME account but was dismayed to find it was listed as an 8 - 12 week delivery ! After pitching a b1tch i received a notification stating they had been restocked and my order was shipping sooner than expected . So after only 16 days or so from initial order i received it in what was listed as garaunteed hassle free packaging or whatever that is and i don't know about all that but heres what i got ... a standard USPS bubble padded envelope which inside held a vinyl sealed shut envelope which inside of that held my invoice and the cable , neatly wound up and twist tied together on itself . So thats what they mean by hassle free i guess ??? Anyways , a worth while product at a fair price from Amazon but the jury's not fully in just yet on the whole delivery fiasco and what not ...

Great quality and price again
This was a great upgrade for my wife's and mine phone. The standard charger that came with our droid phones was about 1.5' long, this is obviously much longer and we can pick our phones up at night without ripping the charger out of the socket. The construction is great, I reliability on all of the AmazonBasic cables I have bought are not ever a question - my 2 HDMI cables I have at work for our office TV for presentations and kiosk display are over 2 years old, the HDMI cables I have on my 2 TVs at home are 4+ years old,and I have long since switched from cablestogo to Amazon Basics cables for any application other than bulk cat5/cat6. The quality is top tier and the performance and reliability will match any top grade cable manufacturer (if you ever buy a monster cable - you were ripped off). AmazonBasics cables aren't bargain cables, they are top grade items, just for a low price.

Great initial quality but limited service life
I was so pleased with the quality of the shorter (3 Feet) version of this cable that I bought two 6 Feet ones. I have to admit when I first bought them I was incredibly happy. They appeared to be well built and far more rugged than the cables that are either supplied with smart phones or available in retail stores. If I had rated them within the first couple of months of the purchase date, I would have rated them 5 stars. Unfortunately, the initial quality was deceiving. I bought these cables in July 2013 and both cables suddenly failed around April 4, 2014. While this is nearly double the service life that some of the other reviewers experienced, it's still not acceptable. Chargers that I bought for my previous cell phones and other devices more than 5 years ago are still working perfectly today. More than 1 year before I bought these AmazonBasics cables, I bought a 6 feet 2.0 A Male to Micro B cable for $19.99 from a national retail chain. That cable also continues to work today. So...I considered rating these 1 star but my wife and I used these cables every day for about 8 months. At under $6.00 per cable the service life is almost reasonable. It's unfortunate that Amazon has it's name associated with such a disappointing product.

Explains why only 3 stars
Links to related/helpful products coming soon. Lengthy review AND worth reading. Hope & expect to be able to update review of this cable to 5 stars. Have numerous cables in this line, as well as several in other lines. Afterwards, found why most reviews were 5 stars, w few 1 or 2 stars. It seems that most of the 4-5-star reviews were written promptly after product arrived, with people being impressed with the apparent quality of the cable (based on appearance). In contrast, 1-2-star reviews were written months later, with comments centered around, "Wonderful, until it broke, after only a few months of gentle use." I don't know if all of these cables eventually fail, w few people taking time & effort to inform Amazon - or whether only a small percent of them fail. The place where mine fail (NOT unique to this brand of cable) is where there is a missing strain release ("faulty design"). In comparison with other cables, these look so solid that I thought they would last. In Amazon's favor (reason for 3 stars, instead of fewer), and because I've been careful to buy cables from Amazon, whenever possible, regardless of manufacturer (and modestly higher cost), Amazon has almost always exercised it's exception policy: to refund or replace a broken cable after 30 days. It's not as if the cable breaks after years: cables break after just a few months. This is the design issue in many cables: Just below the part of the cable that plugs into phone, at connection to cord, after repeated use (typically just a few months), the wiring breaks/shorts. Then, the cable may work - *if* held firmly in place (tires fingers quickly), or some similar arrangement, such as laying the cable and phone flat on a surface, with the cable wedged perfectly in position (so that the wiring touches). This means that if someone needs a reliable cable, away from desk, it's necessary to carry at least 2 cables at all times. For this cable (received as replacement), I hope hope hope that it will last. There are many times that I find it important to have a long cable, and sometimes with an additional extender, because of the distance between me and an electrical outlet. Until recently, a more compact cable (different manufacturer, better design, available from Amazon) has been my most reliable cable. It lasted much longer than the seemingly better-made Amazon cable, However, did fail after about 7 months - rather than after about 3 months. Even though this cable (subject of this review) is 3-4 times in bulk/weight, I'm going to use it, at least until I purchase an additional, compact and lengthy cable. (Gave up on travel-designed, reeled cables, because of frustration, unreliability, and short life-span - even when used appropriately, according to known precautions.) After several months, I hope to revise this review. If no failures, I would give it 5 stars for home/office use; 4 stars for use elsewhere - because of bulk. However, if/when it also fails, I would revise review to 1 star - or 2-3 stars if amazon provides replacement/refund. (Not more stars, because of inconvenience and time required to get replacement/refund.). If *you* don't mind having to pay for new cables several times a year, AND if its bulk is not an issue for your use, then a 5 star rating would be appropriate - because, unlike many other cables, I have not seen any of these cables have the metal attachment component loosen or break or otherwise become non-functional. If you have enough time/money to replace cables whenever they break, then this is a top-notch cable. If/when this, or another Amazon cable breaks, I will be looking more to other brands. If you have never previously thought you needed a 6 foot cable, but you need to frequently work tied to an electric outlet, you will likely be pleasantly surprised with the benefit of extra length - and may even purchase an extender (like having an extension cord) in order to have even more length. I had originally purchased this cable because Amazon suggested that when using 2 cables, connected to each other, to expect more reliability if both cables are on the same brand. I have not found this to be an issue. However, this is how I discovered amazon cables, and I am glad.

Good Cable for the money
This was a replacement data/charging cable for a multiple device (Kindle Fire and Samsung Galaxy S3). The cable ends make a snug connection. The cable itself perform the required tasks, charging with no problems and data transfer appear to be as quick as previous USB cables. In my experience, most USB cables last only a certain number of connects/disconnect cycles. What I encounter is the locking tabs that are designed to hold the Micro USB end into the device wear out and then the device does not charge. When you have to start figuring out that just right angle for the cable to stay connected, its time for a new cable. Cheaper cables that I have bought in the past may last 3-6 months of daily use. The slight more experience cables may last 6-12 months. I can't recall a single cable lasting any more than 14 months under daily use. I have now owned this about 2 months and it appears to be holding up well. The locking tabs still keep a firm connection. But only time will really tell if this is one par with the cheaper cables (short lived) or the more expensive cables (better endurance). I'm not saying that you get what you pay for. So don't rush out and spend some crazy amount for a cable. But I think this AmazonBasics cable has the potential to be the perfect balance of cost, performance, and longevity.

Great, durable cable in great big box
Update 4/9/12 UNBELIEVABLE! Of all the micro USB cables I've purchased from OEM to eBay, my five AmazonBasics cables are the ONLY ones that still work! They've been through 2.5 years of abuse! Now I just wish these came in longer lengths so I could buy more of them. When you hear "you get what you pay for" - it's true. I've wasted more than enough money on $1 cables to justify the purchase of these ones even at the current price. ------------ I bought 5 of these micro USB cables on pre-order back in October 2010, since I was sick of flimsy ebay cables, and even my OEM HTC Evo cable had failed. These have held up against daily use at home, work, and even being stepped on in the car (for my car charger). I keep extras in by bags so I always have one. The squishy Amazon Basics label seemed cheesy, but it's durable and makes it very easy to identify which side goes up (compared to the usual usb symbol). The spring-loaded retention hooks are holding up well too. My other cables all stopped holding on to my device after a month. Only things I would change are: Make the micro-end of the cable a little more sleek. Huge box looks cheap (but maybe that's why this is more durable than the other cables I've used - don't sacrifice that). Don't waste a box on every single cable. Seriously... I ended up receiving an enormous Amazon box with 5 of these smaller (but still way too big) boxes in it. The usual plastic bag would have been just fine. If you want to make it frustration free, ship it in a ziploc bag. But even that would be a waste of money/resources, IMO. The current price of $5.48: Ouch. Despite how good this cable is, I wouldn't pay more than half that (and I didn't when I pre-ordered).
