![Essential Fellini (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91fSBAJQQ3L.jpg)

One hundred years after his birth, Federico Fellini still stands apart as a giant of the cinema. The Italian maestro is defined by his dualities: the sacred and the profane, the masculine and the feminine, the provincial and the urbane. He began his career working in the slice-of-life poetry of neorealism, and though he soon spun off on his own freewheeling creative axis, he never lost that grounding, evoking his dreams, memories, and obsessions on increasingly grand scales in increasingly grand productions teeming with carnivalesque imagery and flights of phantasmagoric surrealism while maintaining an earthy, embodied connection to humanity. Bringing together fourteen of the director’s greatest spectacles, all beautifully restored, this centenary box set is a monument to an artist who conjured a cinematic universe all his own: a vision of the world as a three-ring circus in which his innermost infatuations, fears, and fantasies take center stage. Fifteen-Blu-Ray special edition collector's set features. • New 4K restorations of 11 theatrical features, with uncompressed monaural soundtracks for all films • New digital restorations of the short film Toby Dammit (1968) and the television film Fellini: A Director’s Notebook (1969), with uncompressed monaural soundtracks • Feature documentaries Fellini: I’m a Born Liar (2002) and Marcello Mastroianni: I Remember (1997), the latter presented in its 193-minute version • Two-hour, four-part 1960 interview with director Federico Fellini by filmmaker André Delvaux for Belgian television • Four behind-the-scenes documentaries: Reporter’s Diary: “Zoom on Fellini” (1965), Ciao, Federico (1969), The Secret Diary of “Amarcord” (1974), and Fellini racconta: On the Set of “And the Ship Sails On” (1983) • Fellini racconta: Passegiatte nella memoria, a 2000 documentary featuring interviews with a late-in-life Fellini • Giulietta Masina: The Power of a Smile, a 2004 documentary about Fellini’s wife and frequent collaborator • Once Upon a Time: “La dolce vita,” a French television documentary about the film • Audio commentaries on six of the films • Program from 2003 on Fellini's 1980s television advertising work • Archival interviews with Fellini stars and collaborators, including Mastroianni, Sandra Milo, Anouk Aimée, and Magali Noël • Archival audio interviews by film critic Gideon Bachmann with Fellini, Mastroianni, and Fellini's friends and family • Video essays, trailers, and more • PLUS: Deluxe packaging, including two lavishly illustrated books with hundreds of pages of content: notes on the films by scholar David Forgacs, essays by filmmakers Michael Almereyda, Kogonada, and Carol Morley; film critics Bilge Ebiri and Stephanie Zacharek; and novelist Colm Tóibín, and dozens of images spotlighting Don Young’s renowned collection of Fellini memorabilia. Review: Custom Mailer - Excellent item as you probably know . I'm THRILLED about the shipping all around & fast delivery to porch but I would like to compliment whomever is responsible for custom cardboard mailer it came in. I worried reading some of the major complaints from recent years about packaging issues and damages suffered to box & DVD's . It would appear that the manufacturers corrected this issue. I'm very happy with our distribution outlet in El Paso , Texas . I'm west 90 miles from in New Mexico and I think they terrific and professional. Not one order came damaged , late or poorly packaged so Thank You all responsible parties. Oh yeah , the ''Essential Fellini'' anthology ( minus a few films not added and missing correct documentary Ive seen about the director ) is your final replacement ! Review: The best Fellini collection on the US market - The collection is a bit pricey, but in this case you get what you pay for. These movies have all been restored beautifully, and the box is a delight. The packaging is a fairly sturdy cardboard box. It is quite large, so you may have trouble fitting it onto a bookshelf. Mine protrudes about an inch past the end of my shelf. Inside the box is a large folio for the discs and two novel-sized books. One is a guide to each of the films, and the other is full of essays about Fellini and his work. The movies all look great. The blu-ray upgrades look great compared to my old vhs or dvd copies of some of his works. There was a new restoration of all of these films right before the set came out, and it shows. The black and white contrast looks crisp and the color films really pop. As for the quality of the films, you know that some of these are considered top films of all time. The lesser films are still good to great. I think that all of these films are worth watching over and over, and all of them have great special features. All in all, this set is very much worth it, especially during the July sale. I bought it half price, and I feel I got an incredible bargain. All in all, this is probably the best Criterion box set. Don't hesitate, buy it.

Fellini Essentialized
Criterion made excellent choices in narrowing Fellini's oeuvre to 14 films, starting with his earliest, "Variety Lights" (which he co-directed) up through "Intervista," a pseudo-documentary that presaged the mockumentary industry. Alongside the beautifully restored movies are a host of supplements, including the hard-to-find short film "Toby Dammit" and a lengthy reminiscence by Marcello Mastroianni alongside Fellini interviews and commentary tracks. This will keep you busy for weeks!

Loved it! One of the best Criterion's collections
Got it really fast. Everything is awesome about this. The quality is very nice. Both books are completely illustrated. Maybe the placement of the discs isn't the best (it's not cheap at all, just a little bit difficult to take the discs out and may not be suitable for hard movements). But overall this collection has it all. I would love to have clips that went missing such as Fellini's clip from Boccaccio 70 but I can say this bundle is really complete. I haven't had time to watch Mastroianni's documentary or to find the extra documentaries. You won't regret to buy this. It's worth every penny!

A must-have for any Fellini fan
When this was initially announced I was determined to add to my own library, however my economic situation at the time prevented me from buying it. It'd be a couple years before I finally had a little more financial freedom and ordered my copy. As noted in other reviews there was a common occurrence of discs coming loose from their little individual pocket and slide around free, potentially demanding the disc. This did happen to my order, but thankfully there was no damage. This a great collection, however there are a few exclusions that prevent me from giving it a full Five Star rating. His later films are not very good and feel like a great director falling into the pit of self parody. And the Ship Sails On is probably the worst of the entire collection. The disc devoted to a documentary on Marcello Mastroianni (which still haven't watched) seems like it's taking valuable space where an actual Fellini film should belong. I was hoping that they'd include Casanova, The Clowns, or even his last film, Voices of the Moon (which I still haven't seen). But that's the end of my minor quibble with these otherwise magnificent collection. I finally had in my possession all of his early films, a few a was seeing for the first time. I watched them in chronological order, beginning with Variety Lights, which he was actually a co-director and doesn't take much credit for. His early neorealist period was surprisingly good. I was so used to the period from Juliet of the Spirits onward that I thought I was going to be rather bored by these films. I was just happy to finally own a copy of Nights of Cabiria, which is still my favourite of his films. The collection also includes his contribution to an anthology film titled Spirits of the Dead, titled Toby Dammit. I was doubly surprised that it was not the dubbed version in which Terrance Stamp is dubbed by an anonymous Italian actor but retained his actual voice. The special features are plentiful and sound satisfy anyone who wants to appreciate the magic of Fellini. Criterion always puts out great quality releases and this is among their crowning achievements. Hopefully in the foreseeable future they'll release a box set of Luis Buñuel films.

it came in perfect condition but I can't watch any blue rays because it's an American version and they are not compatible with our readers 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
