Very light and effective trimmer
I’m very well designed trimmer that cuts through grass and weeds very easily. The battery lasts about 45 minutes. It’s fairly light and easy to use. I think it’s also a pretty good value.

LST522 Your Money's Worth/5th year now
5th year now and I am alive, and still extremely happy with trimmer. I have bumped my stars to 5. All that I wrote before still applies, I am older man with respiratory problems and I need all the help I can get maintaining the yard in the hot summer heat. This trimmer and my new small ride-on mower are my new two best friends. 1. No extension cords. What a wonderful freedom. (Circle a bush twice then go straight to the next !) 2. Lightweight. The shaft and work head rotate for sidewalk edge trimming and that's it. No head tilt or similar extras. I figure that's what keeps it lightweight and in the cost range it's in. 3. I bought this trimmer for trimming grass around places a mower can't get, weeds before they reach 3 feet tall and trimming sidewalk edges. It does that just fine in less than half the time it took with my old corded whacker. 4.Battery- I have busy yards with playthings, a garden, bushes, trees and flowerbeds with borders and more. They are fair size yards and it uses about a battery and a half. Unless you have small yard I suggest you buy an extra battery also 5. Dinky Charger. Yes it comes with a slow dinky charger but once again I believe considering the price range warrants a no star reduction. After purchase I found out I could use my Porter Cable 20v fast charger after a small simple battery alternation. It's a convenient, but I believe with the two batteries I could have made the slow charger work. 6. The wheel and sidewalk trimmer. Cool idea I think, just pull shaft collar up, turn shaft around then roll along sidewalk edge cutting grass hanging over the sidewalk. ( No, not made for trench digging like gas edgers :-) 7. Line out works as advertised. My string nightmares might be over. The filled cartridge it came with worked like a charm. Line out automatically when needed and no jams. I bought 2 extra refills later. There is an art to refilling your own and my lack of patience in the past has cost me grief. 8. Two speed. If you're thinking about it you'll probably will go with high speed, however the other day after finishing one yard I then noticed I had it on low. If your needs and thinking parallel mine somewhat I think you will find this a great buy.

Black & Becker 20V Weed Wacker
Pros Great product. Does a good job. Easy to handle. Bought for my wife to be able to use. I had another brand however too heavy and complicated for her to use. Replacement of nylon cords very easy and easy to order them on Amazon. Battery life is good for 20 V. Recommend getting a fast charge battery station. Cons The switch to operate went bad. Hard to open the unit to find the issue. It appeared the small limit switch not making contact. Was able to adjust to get it working again however the problem reoccured. To much trouble to replace, bought another as it was just out of 2 years warranty , (2 years & 6 months). Bought the same unit. To much trouble to try to get a warranty replacement.

Excellent/User Friendly Trimmer
My neighbor recently convinced me to purchase this trimmer. For the past 9 yrs I’ve been using a Husqvarna 4cycle trimmer which is very powerful and has performed great. But I needed a trimmer that could be used to form a nice demarcation between the concrete and grass…and also around flower beds. I would have to tilt my Husqvarna to achieve this but due to it’s design it would leave a “sloped” edge. This Black and Decker performs beautifully. The built-in wheel makes all the difference in the world as well as the ability to tilt the trimmers head (by turning the handle). The wheel helps stabilize the trimmer so that you can get a nice, neat edge and it even does very well around curves. It’s also much lighter than my other trimmer…very easy on the upper body. I have only used it once (today) but was so impressed I wanted to write this review. My neighbor has had his for years and it’s still going strong….so I’m not to worried about durability. If you need a trimmer for cutting down really tall grass or saplings, then a heavier duty model (like my Husqvarna) is probably what you should purchase. But for normal use, this trimmer will be just fine. I may even purchase an extra one just as a back up in case this model is ever discontinued (hopefully not). One more thing…it would be a good idea to go ahead and get an extra battery as back up. Hope this review helps.

Exceeded my expectations.
This is an excellent weed eater. I got it initially to use temporarily since my gas weed eater needed repairs but now all I use is my Black+Decker machine. It's not heavy so my gf can easily use it, the length is great, the battery life is defent but I got three other batteries to eliminate the need to charge while working. I love the edging feature as well plus the two speed options. This product has exceeded my expectations.

Like a Timex....takes a licking and keeps on ticking!
I have owned it for 7 years and it still works great, battery just as strong as day 1. I just bought a second one for the backyard. I also have an EGO string trimmer but it sucks compared to my LST522 Black and Decker.

Handy and works hard!
I hardly ever send in a review, but this trimmer deserves a 10 star. I had an older model for years that I inherited, so might have been 5 to 10 yrs old. Worked great but one day the string mechanism malfunction, probably an operator error. This newer model has a wheel to make trimming straighter and lighter. I am so pleased w this model for my 1/3rd acre lot. I am a master gardener, so I don't want to fuss so much w trimming around the fence, garden, bird feeders, drive and sidewalk, so I can spend time working in community gardens. This battery operated trimmer made short work of my trim needs. I would recommend having 2 batteries. Especially if you have the Black and Decker Blower... which also works like a charm and is very lightweight. Thanks Black and Decker! Oh, BTW, I could not find this model at Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart... sold out? Who knows.. Amazon was the same as any list price of other stores, plus free delivery! Yay!

For small jobs only
I bought this thinking it'd be a great entry-level trimmer. Light weight, no clumsy starter mechanism, no messy refueling, no complicated engine requiring regular maintenance, even converts to an edger; what's not to like, right? Unfortunately, in order to do anything useful, this has to be turned up to the "high" setting, and on that setting, the battery lasts about 10 minutes. Maybe 15 minutes - point being, the job was not even 1/4 done when it gave out. And the battery/charger is NOT a "fast charge" combo, it takes several hours to get a full charge. I went out the very next day to get a gas-powered trimmer and have never looked back. I guess this might be OK for the typical suburban 1/4 acre lot that's usually maintained with a push mower and manual weed-pulling. If you're dealing with a much larger space and using a trimmer to handle areas that a riding mower can't navigate around - trees, ditches, trenches, hardscaping, and so on - then just forget about trying to do that with an inexpensive battery-powered device. There were some other minor things I wasn't crazy about - it's kind of short, even at full extension, which means I kept "trimming" the top of my shoe. Fortunately, this thing's nowhere near powerful enough to cause injury or damage, but it was still a nuisance. The main issue, though, was the battery life. It's pitiful, and unlike a gas trimmer, you can't just fill it back up when empty. If you're simply looking for an upgrade to hand-pulling, maybe this will be fine for you, but if you're out in the country or have an acre or more... hard pass, just suck it up and get a Stihl or Husqvarna.
