Could I achieve more or less the same result with a single-edged razor blade?

If you are looking to achieve a nice "ear" on your loaves, I would recommend using a lame. The main difference here is the curve of the razor blade, versus the blade remaining straight on the single edged razor. The curve serves a purpose when scoring, it allows you to get a nice cut under the skin of the loaf, not just a straight cut, which leads to not as nice of an ear. So, yes, you can absolutely use a razor, but it won't ever get quite the same results that you would with the lame.

I looked for it but couldn't find any country of origin label on the package, instructions or the lame itself (Is that legal?)

How long will one blade stay sharp enough to get a good cut? And where do you get replacement blades?

Replacements were sent with the product. I have no idea how long each blades lasts - but I have been using the same blade for three months

How long/thick is the product dimensions wise?

From the end of the razor to the end of the handle it is 7 inches long. I am a female and it fits comfortable in the grip of my hand. The leather case for the razor is l-3/4 inches long X almost l- l/2 inches wide.
