Flying Mother Nature's Silver Seed

This encaustic abstract is part of a series of mine of images of deep space, this one purely imaginary, but reminiscent of some of the more highly colored photographs sent back from the Hubble Telescope, images of gaseous clouds around a super nova. The title comes from the song Neil Young wrote and made popular "After the Gold Rush" in which the lyric reads "they were flying mother nature's silver seed to a new home in the sun". I began with a base of white encaustic ground mixed with graphite powdered, then added quinacridone red, deep turquoise and cerulean blue was then covered with titanium white before fusing, the white brightening the darker blues and creating the cloud swirls, but fragmenting as well, creating the speaks of bright white. Encaustic is highly-pigmented pharmaceutical-grade beeswax mixed with damar resin. The latter causes the finished painting to become very hard and archival once completely cooled, and each layer of paint is fused (I've used both a heat gun and a heating lamp). Signed and dated on the back, it ships with a digitally-registered Certificate of Authenticity.
