Shapes Peg Puzzle

This wooden puzzle has small pegs with identical pictures underneath that match the puzzle pieces. The pegs on top of the pieces are quite small; best for young children with more advanced fine motor skills. The wood puzzle pieces are sturdy and the pegs seem to be securely inserted into the pieces. After months of use with toddlers and preschoolers, this puzzle still looks brand new. Words for the shapes are written clearly on the base of the puzzle. Great puzzle for young children to learn shapes and spatial relationship skills.

I bought this for my 2 year old as a Christmas gift and she loves it. It helps me teacher her shapes and colors! The pieces fit very nicely, unlike some other puzzles I've purchased in the past. My daughter sometimes gets frustrated if the pieces don't fit exactly right (if they have extra room around them), but these she doesn't second guess if she's got the right spot. She has no problem with these, I really like the quality of Melissa & Doug items and we have purchases several more puzzles and toys from this line!

Melissa and Doug have done it again. Their products are reasonably priced, user friendly and well made using quality materials, and this shape puzzle is no exception. In this case the users are our 1 1/2-year-old grandson and his (much older) grandfather. This bright, engaging toy has given them hours of fun and, despite his young age, has helped him learn to identify even such unusual shapes as the octagon and pentagon. Thanks, Melissa and Doug!

Pros: Look: This is pleasant looking and attractive enough even for my 15 month year old to motivate to pick, play and to explore. Quality : My daughter tried everything she can but the paint never came out. It is Hand made and I would not say each shape fits picture perfectly but it will not slow down or stop when kid tries to fit it. In fact his is what makes it unique and good Usage: I am pretty sure that it is of great help in baby's development cycle since in my personal experience every kid comes into my home tries to explore this puzzle. Cons: The small handle in every shape is hard and I had to watch out when my kid play with it to make sure it does not hurt through it never happened. If it is made up of rubber like material instead of plastic, I would have given 5 star

Great Reinforcement! My daughter struggled with squares and rectangles which is typically common. However, this board made it much EASIER! She was able to associate the words with the shapes. Then, it introduced 2 other shapes -octagon and pentagon. Now she is speeding through each shape!!! Hands-on learning is very good for our little people!!! Highly recommend this board.

I love love love Melissa and Doug products. They are great for learning and amazing quality. You can never go wrong with a Melissa and Doug product even the toys that are made just for fun end up being a great learning experience. Like the majority of the Melissa & Doug toys, the quality was very good and our kids liked it. However, unlike most of the other M&D toys we've bought the kids, they didn't like this puzzle set. They found it boring. We think it' because it' more about shapes and perhaps they weren't ready to work with shapes yet. Will recommend if you want an educational toy for young kids to try to teach them shapes.

I bought this for my son's second birthday, since he's really into puzzles and we've been trying to work with him on shapes, colors, etc. I didn't have much material to work with for shapes, so I bought this puzzle... and he mastered it in about 10 minutes. haha. He knows where all of the shapes go, so we're still using it to help him learn the names of his shapes, and he's doing really well! He gets the octagon and pentagon mixed up, but other than that, he's pretty consistent with it. And even though he can do the whole puzzle alone in about 30 seconds, he still plays with it almost every day. The puzzle itself is sturdy and colorful, and the pieces all fit in very well. I wish there were more shapes (heart, star, etc), but those are much more common on toddler learning toys than the octagon and pentagon are, so I'll take it. :)

We got this today. I bought this so my toddler can practice finger thumb coordination using the little pegs on the pieces. He put a couple of the pieces in his mouth and after one afternoon the coloured paper was worn off many of them. Does not stand up to little drooly mouths at all. We have M and D fridge magnets and they at least lastest a couple months of drool not one afternoon...
