Nick Brandt: On This Earth, A Shadow Falls

Nick Brandt is a wonderful photographer. The book for me was just to heavy to lift. I have shoulder problems and it is a VERY LARGE BOOK and worth every penny. Had I been younger, I would have kept it but at 75 it is just to much for me to lift. I do have Inherit The Dust and it is much a much lighter book and not as beautiful as is this one. If I had someone to give it to I would have done so. A+++++++++

Nick Brandt has captured the most heart wrenching documentation of man's cruelty-arrogance and greed. To think that we as humans have ravaged what has been created- created without any human interaction. These photos capture what is wild- what is beautiful- and what we as the " superior race" have and continue to ravage. What right do we have to eradicate these majestic animals? I ask myself that everyday. This is the point where we as a race have evolved. I am ashamed of our evolution. This book represents a deep love and appreciation for these magnificent animals and I hope will cause some soul searching to those who are privileged to view it. This endeavor by Nick Brandt will serve as an everlasting testament of respect and gratitude for this cause- for all of us to come to the realization that we have no right to kill -what was meant to share this planet with us. A wonderful book of tremendously beautiful portraits of elephants and other wild animals. Looking through the pages you cannot help but feel for the future of these magnificent creatures. All credit to Nick for the fantastic work he is doing in Africa, he should be supported. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Amazon.com who didn't send the 2014 edition as described, and instead sent an earlier edition poorly packaged that arrived with dents and scores in the front cover.

Beautiful book!! It arrived in pristine condition w more than enough protective packaging. It was intended as a gift so I did need it to be in excellent condition and I couldn't be more pleased. The pictures are breathtaking .......It is a large book (size wise), so keep that in mind when purchasing.

One of the most beautiful books I own. The images are absolutely magnificent. Nick Brandt captures the plight of the African animals from a great perspective. The book itself is beautifully bound and always gets great attention.

A piece of art work, so amazing, so beautiful those pictures are. It's not only a Must-buy books about wildlife animals' life but also a great book for B&W photography. The stories behind these creatures are sad and horrible, but it also remind and push us to face the problems of poaching. Save these animals, not just for them and for us, but also for our future and children.

I bought this for our daughter-in-law who spent over six weeks in Africa this summer. She absolutely loves it! It was a trip of a life time and she will always remember it; now with a fabulous book.

This is the re-print of the first 2 books that Nick Brandt dedicated to his love for Africa: "On This Earth" and "A Shadow Falls". According to the author, the first prints were of poor quality, while this new book has a much higher standard. I can only confirm, print quality is good and the large format helps fall into Brandt's Africa of animals and landscapes, so authentic that they almost look unearthly. Not only Brandt collected an impressive set of beautiful pictures, he also set up an organisation to protect wildlife in Kenya and Tanzania from poachers. Highly recommended. Warning: as a side effect, other wildlife books may suddenly turn boring

Amazing pictures

Dieses Buch ist in meinen Augen ein absolutes "Must Have". Nach einer Ausstellung mit diesen Bildern ließ mich die Erinnerung an diese Photos nicht mehr los. Es gibt zwei Varianten hier auf Amazon zu kaufen. Ich empfehle jedem die teurere, ältere Version mit dem hellgrauen Einband. Der Druck ist tadellos. Es sind mehr Seiten und mit gut 3kg hat man wirklich etwas in der Hand. Ich kenne keine besseren Fotos von wilden Elefanten. Der Aufwand und die Zeit, die er investiert haben muß um mit einer Mittelformatkamera und einer Portaitlinse so nahe an die Tiere heranzukommen, muß unendlich gewesen sein. Er spricht selbst in einem Interview davon, dass es Monate gedauert hat, bis die Elefanten akzeptiert haben, dass von ihm keine Gefahr ausgeht. Je länger man die Fotos betrachtet, umso mehr wird einem das bewußt. Tolle Fotos! Sehr gutes Buch!
