Yes, this product is heat resistant up to 80 degrees Celsius or 176 degrees Fahrenheit

How does this compare to a wet brush as far as getting out tangles?

I don't know exactly what you mean by a wet brush however I think this brush is very comfortable for getting out tangles without causing pain. I have been using this same hair brush for over 30 years and I bought them for my teen girls so they would stop borrowing mine. In the amount of time I have had three or four of these brushes so I guess they last about 7 to 10 years. It's a great massage for your scalp if you brush your hair before bedtime. It can work out tangles. You still have to hold my child's head as you brush out the tangles at the bottom and work your way up. some years ago I scoured the internet when they were not available outside of Japan but luckily I was able to get them for Christmas from Amazon. My girls are happy and I am glad to have my own hair brush back instead of lost in the house somewhere. They have long thick straight to wavy hair. It's not the bristles that wear out It is mostly that I dropped the brush on a hard surface too many times and the handle breaks after many years. Love this brush!

What material are the bristles?

It's made of a firm to semi firm plastic or nylon. You can move the bristles with your hand but I find it plenty firm. It's a very good brush.
