Is this appropriate for a 5 year old?

Not really. This is for my 10 years old child and I have a 5 year daughter, she can not do it and kind of dangers.

How exactly is this pogo stick foldable? I'm buying it to bring back home to my daughter on an airplane - can I fold it and put it in my suitcase??

Well, it would need to be a pretty big suitcase. The foot pedals fold up, but the actual stick doesn't.

What would happen if a 170lb person used this ? Would it break or just not bounce much ? I'm just looking for exercise and not tricks

Would not work well and spring mechanism would break down quickly in my opinion. Very well made and will last for years with correct weight limit but if you plan on using for exercise I think you will be dissapointed. I suggest a good speed rope for adult jumping exercise. :)

Is this meant for a kid for 125 pounds

I think it would work well with that weight. My daughter who is 8 and weighs about 65 pounds doesn't weigh enough to get this going. I tried it and it was easier for me because I weigh so much more.
