Sew Your Own Wardrobe: More Than 80 Techniques [Smith, Alison] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Sew Your Own Wardrobe: More Than 80 Techniques Review: Includes patterns you can sew! - I bought this to learn fitting and try to up my game but this book is amazing and will pay for itself immediately. On top of well displayed steps there's a wonderful website where I can print out a PDF and assemble skirts, bodices, dresses...in my size. If you're familiar with PDF's these will be the best ones you've ever worked with. Impossible to line up lines wrong by even a millimeter and effortless. I printed out my skirt pattern then went to the chapter on to sew it up. It's perfect. I also applied needed fitting to the pattern before cutting fabric because of the help of this book. A PDF can cost up to $15.00 and it still would not guarantee that the sellers size chart is accurate. The pattern in this book I Know has accurate size chart. I'm blown away with their web site, support and information in this book. Wish I'd gotten it years ago. What's a PDF? You click on the size/pattern you find on their website,(the book tells you how/where to measure yourself to find your size) print it out, place the pages together like laying tiles, tape and cut it out. Wonderful and cheaper than buying MFGR patterns from the big names like Simplicity . It's the perfect book for beginners or intermediates like myself. Review: Great for a self-taught sewist - Easy to understand directions. Great picture tutorials. Love the printable pdf templates.

Great resource
My sewing teacher suggested I get this book as a newbie. It's a great resource for someone starting out sewing clothes. I like having a physical copy rather than YouTube videos because it's nice being able to look something up quickly in the book.

Really nice book to outline how to follow patterns and the basics of sewing clothing
When I was young my mom taught me how to sew - basic things. She really didn't go into teaching me how to read or interpret patterns or anything in depth like that. So while I certainly didn't lack knowledge or comfort in the basics of using a sewing machine I definitely felt blindsided when I tried to stick with a pattern for my first "big girl project" all these years later. I flipped through this book at a friends' home and decided to get a copy for myself. BOY AM I HAPPY THAT I DID. My comfort level with reading patterns and understanding the basics of a lot of sewing tools I was not super familiar with jumped exponentially. A really great book to get a good handle on the basics or a refresher for the person like myself who is struggling with pattern interpretation and assembly of pieces of a pattern for an item of clothing.

Impressive step by step with clear photo instruction!
I bought the hard cover and spent two hours just looking through this book and marveling at it and how well it's been put together. It is very thorough, includes information like what needle size you need for a specific fabric, what that fabric is used for, stitch length and width to use... etc etc. There's sections for everything including Patterns and how to decipher the hieroglyphics. =P I love that she even shows you how you can alter those patterns if you want. I am so impressed with how much effort went into this book, and how she doesn't just assume you know things like so many sewing patterns do.. Even the ones marked 'easy.' I will definitely be using this book a lot and I would recommend this to any one who is new to sewing or just want's to increase their knowledge in this particular area. I have heard there are issues with the Kindle version so I want to be clear again that I purchased the hard copy, and that is what I would recommend.

An excellent reference
This is an excellent reference for when you’re starting out sewing and making your own clothes. If you’re like me and relatively new, I think you’ll really find the book useful. Just read the patterns twice as there’s not always a full explanation to what you need to do and why.

No need for fashion school.
The book is so detailed and it covers almost all the areas of fashion and design. When you have this book, no need for Fashion school again.

This basic wardrobe selection, timeless classic never out of fashion. Can use many of them, there are modifications to the same style. The book shows how to sew different seams, with good explanations and photos. Even shows how to sew the entire garment, including when finishing seams - commercial patterns give you the sequence, but do not show when to serge or zigzag seam allowances, you need to figure on your own. Very good photos and a very useful book.

This is a good sewing book for beginners that want to learn more . It has downloadable projects you will print in pdf. These projects also have instructions to modify them into different styles. Lots of techniques and basics to read.I have downloaded few of the patterns and currently putting it together...prints are in A4 that has to be taped together. Still reading and loving it.

The book us very good. Very well made and organized. Easy to follow step by step images and instructions. I recommend this book. The only problem is that it came with the corners damaged.... No impact in the context but it bothers me a lot.

Excellent reference for sewists, especially beginners. Packed full of info. Something you keep on your shelf forever and use frequently.

This book has a lot of great elements; however, the patterns can only be downloaded in letter paper size, which means piecing together pattern pieces. It would be nice to have them on A0 Copy Shop size or as projector files for those of us using projectors.
