It's 2019, and we Apple tech-users are in the throes of yet another "find an adapter" upheaval. If you're like me, you've got 1 (or more) SEAGATE backup hard drives that you need to frequently access. You may have already spent an hour ruminating through the Amazon listings for cables for your new Apple product(s) (USB-C? Alas, Lightning, we hardly knew ye!) to keep your peripherals compatible. I swear, it's a conspiracy against the consumer... I spent HOURS 1 night, looking for about 6 new cables/adapters to integrate my new MacBook Pro (with its x4 USB-C ports ONLY), and this cable is the option I finally settled on (read: "took a chance with"). I figured I'd log back in and give my recommendations on what I got, and (maybe) save you a few hours sleep in your own search. (Maybe it's too late at this point, sorry.) So here's where I need to shut up & just get on with it: > COMPATIBILITY: this product is (in my experience) 100% compatible with a setup which comprises a current model Apple laptop and either a 1TB (or 2TB) "Seagate Backup Plus Slim" backup drive. Moreover, the 12 inch length (from tip-to-tip) is perfect for desktop/tabletop use, as it doesn't leave extra cordage lying around to get tangled up in. It's just long enough to tuck out of sight behind the monitor and/or to pick up the unit for easy plugging & unplugging. > I can't speak to "DURABILITY" yet, because I have only had this a month. I don't travel with it; it's only for my home office use. But I can't imagine having any problems with this piece of equipment, longterm. It should outlast that old factory cable. > STURDINESS: oh yeah. Two thumbs way up. This cable is far superior to the original equipment that came with my Seagate(s). We cable-searchers are really looking for 3 things (aside from length), aren't we? The stylish braided cable jacket, the metal plug housings, and the molded segments that protect the joints (between cable & plug) are all top-notch on this cable. > VALUE: for $7.50, I feel like I got a great deal. I won't be having to find a replacement for this anytime soon! (Oh crap--I've just jinxed us all, haven't I?) I hope you get a similarly good deal. > VERDICT: I have no regrets with this product. I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. I would buy the whole range of adapting cables from this brand (i.e. USB-C to: Lightning/USB/Micro-USB/etc.), if they were available.

Exactly what I needed to attach my external Western Digital 4T to my M1 desktop. Better than an adapter. My computer is backing up successfully all day and all night.

Bought this to connect my existing external USB drive to my new MacBook Pro since it only has USB-C ports. Every time I tried to connect the drive using this cable it would cause the laptop to reboot due to an error. It works fine with the existing cable using an Apply USB-C to USB-A adapter. Update: The company that sold this followed up with me and offered to send me a different cable which was 3ft long. Since I was only connecting an external USB drive for backups this was too long. However, they then sent me a 1ft cable. This new cable seems to be working fine. I don't know if this is a different cable as I don't have the original product number but this new cable is CC0016 according to the packaging. Updating the stars from 1 to 4 since the new cable works and the company took the effort to follow up.

It's excellent. I tested this USB Type-C cable on my phone with a 500GB hard drive and it worked wonderfully, the speed was amazing. With this C-type cable, I can use my hard drive with my phone anywhere.

The read/write speed on this cable is great and compatible with standard external hard drive connectors. It is just plug and play and even lets you load the drive from your phone for easy back-up of items on your phone.

This item is well-made, practical, and exceeded my expectations. It adds value and makes everyday use noticeably easier.

Très pratique et de très bonne fabrication. Je manque de recul pour évaluer la solidité dans le temps. Laissez moi quelques semaines (mois ?) d'utilisation pour en juger mais la première impression est positive :-)

Bought this cable to improve the access speed of photos stored on a 4TB external HDD. Though my laptop has an SS port, access had been painfully slow with the USB 3 cable that was included with the HDD, rendering the HDD unusable for anything but mere backup. Access speed improved noticeably after connecting through my laptop's USB-C port and this USB-C cable, enabling me to access photos on the external HDD both for review and for editing purposes. Size of cable ordered (1ft) proved ideal for me personally.
