Tecumseh 590739 Recoil Starter

Was surprised when I took this out the box to see that it looked identical to the OEM part that I took off the lawnmower (a Scotts 6.5hp self propelled about 11 years old, with a Tecumseh engine). All screw holes lined up and the starter fitted perfectly. After priming the lawnmower is started after just a couple of pulls. After warming up the lawnmower, the engine starts on the first pull - very happy. In summary ~$25 delivered to the door, saved me about $400 for the new lawnmower that I had my eye on.

This starter assembly is an aftermarket replacement that is functionally identical to the Tecumseh part. I was hoping that it wasn't going to be identical, because the Tecumseh part uses a plastic spool, which is what eventually failed on mine. Unfortunately, this part also uses a plastic spool. It's too bad someone doesn't make one out of aluminum. It does fit and function just like the original, so I only took one star off for the plastic spool ...

Bought as a replacement for the factory piece after the string broke. Easy to install, worked as expected.

This is an identical replacement to the original starter rope recoil mechanism. SO it also duplicates the cheap plastic housing for the starter pawls that breaks if Goober yards too hard on the starter rope. The trick is to pull lightly on the rope until the pawls engage, and then pull hard - if you pull hard before the pawls engage, it puts a great strain on the plastic housing and it will break before long.It fits perfectly, the rope is plenty long, you can even take the label from the old starter rope and put it on this one. Supplier very prompt - it arrived in three days from order, and very reasonably priced. HIghly recommended.

The first one must have been defective the second one worked great

This is a great product and it fits perfect on my lawnboy it starts up in two pulls and i live in Hawaii and it took less than a week for the product to arrive mahalo amazon!!!

Works as a replacement for toro recycler. But pull handle is brittle and broke in pieces. Otherwise so far so good.

This is a genuine Tecumseh replacement part. Installed quickly and mower started easily. No complaints.
