Brilliant Corners

This is a classic 1950s jazz album with bonus tracks and super star artists. A “most influential jazz” album “according to the critics of Down Beat Magazine.”

I had read that this was one of Monk's Greatest accomplishments. So out of curiousity, I decided to purchase it. I'm not sure if it's the best I've heard from Monk but it is good. If you are a Thelonious Monk fan, you won't be disappointed.

This is truly the best(if not one of the best), Monk recordings. Ernie Henry on alto sax , on a few cuts, is simply incredible . Until this record, I had never heard of Ernie Henry. He has a few CDs. I plan to buy all of them. Every one else on this CD is also great, especially Monk and Sonny Rollins This recording is a must have. Jeff from NYC

DOL is a terrible vinyl company and the quality of the record is a shot in the dark. my copy of brilliant corners is unplayable. I also have a Blue Train and in has problems as well

La presente edición es de 2010, una nueva remasterización con sonido presumiblemente mejorado, y digo presumiblemente porque no tengo la oportunidad de comparar con otras anteriores. Sonido muy bueno en todo caso. Es Brilliant Corners uno de los álbumes cumbre del Bebop. Se observa en Monk mucha vitalidad y frescura. Hay audacia, espíritu de aventura. Mágico. Los músicos de las sesiones incluian a Max Roach (percusión), Sonny Rollins (saxo tenor), Oscar Pettiford (bajo), y Ernie Henry (saxo alto). Ninguna colección de jazz serio debe estar sin Brilliant Corners. A este precio los dos discos, imprescindible. Algunos datos de archivo: Brilliant Corners fue el álbum más aclamado por la crítica en 1957. En 2003, Brilliant Corners fue una de las cincuenta grabaciones elegidas por la Biblioteca del Congreso de los EE UU. This two cd set shows the best of Thelonius Monk. Disc 1 has Monk playing with Ernie Terry,Sonny Rollins,Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, Clark Terry and Paul Chambers. On the second cd Monk is on his own except for the last track where he is joined by John Coltrane and Wilbur Ware on bass. This set shows Monk at his best along with other legends of that era. Just Brilliant.

何故か見当違いのレビューがありますが・・LP盤と一緒になってるせいでしょうか？ 私が選択したのは Brilliant Corners と Thelonious Himself がセットになっているCD盤です。 特にボーナス・トラックはありません。純粋に2枚セットでした。 異様に安かったので選択。お得すぎて申し訳ない程の商品でした。 特に音が悪い等がなく品質は問題なし。ジャケが違う位なので日本盤を単品で買うくらいならこちらをオススメします。 アルバム自体は初心者お断りで・・色々なJazzを聴いて耳を鍛えてから聴いてみましょう。新たな世界が広がります。

Un album assez représentatif de ce pianiste au style original qui a été reconnu bien trop tard à sa vraie valeur, et faisant l'objet d'un véritable culte eu égard à son style très particulier et innovant pour l'époque . Cet album nous présente des morceaux moins connus que la généralité des éditions ressorties depuis quelques temps ainsi que des versions différentes de morceaux déjà bien connus. .
