old cat approved
reapeat buyer. senior cat mom approved. senior cats approve of its taste bite size for kitties with fewer teeth as they age. finding senior cat food is hard. to tummy issues good quality good price. smells like normal cat food to me and i have great sense of smell. cats find its smell appealing that attracts them to want to eat which is hard for older-cats. my oldie cats love it.

Good option for senior cats
I started using this food for some of my senior cats and they seem to enjoy it. The small kibble size is easy for them to eat, and I like that it includes real chicken. It’s been a reliable option for keeping my older cats happy and well-fed.

Saved my cat pain and suffering
My cat got old and wouldn't eat any other kind of dry food. The purina pro senior food was so so and much better than others but ultimately he hated that one too. Switched to this and bam zero issue with this or the sensitive stomach one. He seems to love all of the iams dry food but he doesn't like the iams wet food. The wet food of choice is the purina senior pate chicken or tuna. He eats it all up every time. So originally my cat started getting skinny to the point that I considered it animal cruelty on my own part without even realizing it. But I always kept his bowl full an gave him wet food but he wasn't eating any of it. The dry food was the blue buffalo and the wet I kept trying all different types and nothing was working until the purina senior canned food. I didn't get a chance to weigh how thin he got but I'd say he was maybe down to 9 pounds possibly in the 8's but he is naturally a bigger cat so he was about 4 pounds underweight. I need to weigh him but from all my previous weights of him in the past I'd say he's maybe 14 pounds right now. Hes gotten quite heavy which is where he should be really. Trying to also make sure he's exercising so it isn't junk weight and really it just seems like he's gained healthy weight not just fat. So I'd have to give this food a million out of a million or a trillion out of a trillion because it really saved my cat from being in pain and suffering. He is much stronger now even at over 14 years old I saw him hop over my 7 foot high wall/fence with not really much of anything to grip onto. It always amazed me he could do that even when he was over 18 pounds but when he was down to 8 to 9 he couldn't. He never seemed like the most physically capable cat because hes so non aggressive. In reality hes a very strong cat and phycically could win but just isnt an alpha until he has to be hes a cute cat that just loves to be loved and doesnt have a mean bone in his body. Had another cat that would beat him up and had to get rid of it even tho it was a good cat and wouldnt ever hurt people but he didn't want anyone interfering he wanted his undevided attention and all of the love not half so he would fight the other and aggressively block him from coming near other people. But he would his jaws on his throat a lot and scared the crap out of me. He was a good cat on his own but wanted all the attention to himself I think it was because he was the first cat even though not by much. Children have the same type of jealousy between brothers and sisters with abandonment type issues.

Tried and tested.
My 11 year old is a picky eater. I've tried giving Luna Blue Buffalo Wilderness, Science Diet, and Nulo which she flat out refused to eat. But Iams has always been the safe bet. It's not grain free, but it's most definitely the best if the non-grain free foods out there, and it's the only food my cat confidently eats without issue. It doesn't upset her stomach either. A lot of the grain free foods would cause her to puke often.

My senior cat enjoys this senior IAMS food
My senior cat loves this quality food. I reorder this as soon as the bag is getting low.

He loved it
I switched to this food as I wanted my son Joey to have more nutrient-dense kibble, as he was 14 years old. He seemed to really like it and it gave him no stomach issues. It’s kinda expensive, but worth it as there’s not a lot of cat foods out there targeted to super seniors - ESPECIALLY in bulk, lol. As of September 2025, Joey has passed on. I like to think this food gave him a boost and helped him live a little longer. Thank you for being apart of my cat’s diet!

Good food for old cat!
Recommended by vet and my 18yr old cat likes it a lot and it’s helped her gain a bit of weight. Can be hard to find at the grocery, so nice to be able to order on Amazon.

I've been using Iams dry kibble cat food for my prima donna toriteshell ever since she came home from the animal shelter in the autumn of 2007. At that time, she was teacup size and could tuck in and sleep comfortably under my ear. On the advice of my longtime vet, she had Iams kitten formula dry food, with a very small treat of wet tuna 2-3 times per week. At about 1-1/2 years, she switched to Iams Indoor Weight & Hairball Care Dry food, and did very well on that for about 11-1/2 years. Then, for some reason, she began having problems with a very upset stomach, and frequent vomiting after eating. So, I tried samples of 3 other Iams dry foods, and she did very well on the Healthy Senior Dry Cat Food, and had no more upset tummy troubles (and no more 3 AM cleanups). For the last 20 months, she's been on that, augmented with 1 tsp. of whitefish & tuna "pate" twice a day. Initially, this was to get some medication into her, but after the medication was finished, she still wanted that little bit of wet food, so we've gone with that. Since changing from the Indoor Weight & Hairball Control formula, her coat seems to be softer, and there have been only a few stomach upsets - maybe 3 or 4 in all. She's also lost a bit of weight, and is definitely more active and more vocal. I was buying the larger 3.something bags, but I noticed that the texture seemed to deteriorate by about 2/3 of the way through a large bag. So, I changed to the 1.5 kg size, and this has worked out well, still with 1 tsp of whitefish & tuna 2X daily. On the principle that, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" I think we'll be staying with Proactive Healthy Dry Senior unless circumstances, or the vet suggest otherwise. I've had very good luck with Iams over the years, particularly their dry kibble, and this is another success. She's energetic, healthy, and deigns to be admired and have a good chin scritch when she's not roaring around the main floor at 6:45 PM, or doing guard duty in the "sentry post" that overlooks the front street - a task she has scheduled every day, almost to the minute.

This past summer I was convinced by a friend to get my cat food from Costco. At $26 for a massive bag, and his cats seemed to do well on it, I figured why not. It took a few months but my cats got sick and constipated. I immediately put them back on this, and after awhile they are now happy and healthy again. Word of advice, if you have kittens or young cats, cheaper cat food may suffice. Kind of like humans, we can eat more junk food as younger people and not see much effect. If you have older cats, just stick to the senior food even if it’s a bit more. Seeing my cats sick like that scared the heck out of me.

Both my cats love this kibble. As both are over 15 it is nice to get a senior product that is cat attractive and give them the vitamins and supplements they need.
