Drop the Rock-The Ripple Effect: Using Step 10 to Work Steps 6 and 7 Every Day Review: A Powerful Tool for Daily Growth – "Drop the Rock: The Ripple Effect" - As someone committed to daily growth and self-improvement in recovery, "Drop the Rock: The Ripple Effect" has been an incredibly valuable resource. The book’s emphasis on using Step 10 to actively work through Steps 6 and 7 has truly deepened my understanding of how I can continue to transform my character defects and foster positive change in my life. The beauty of Step 10 is how it helps us consistently identify our character defects in real time, which is crucial for daily recovery work. It’s not just a one-time reflection – it encourages us to examine our actions and reactions throughout the day, taking responsibility and making adjustments as needed. The book guides us in using Step 10 as a tool to spot those defects, but then challenges us to do the work to change them. This creates a steady ripple effect, helping us replace old, harmful behaviors with new, healthier ones. What I found particularly enlightening was the insight into Step 6. This step is all about surrendering to our defects, which takes active participation and willingness on our part. It’s not about expecting God to magically take away our shortcomings – just as we must act on our own in Step 1 to stop drinking, we must take responsibility for Step 6 as well. We need to make the conscious choice not to act on our defects, and that takes practice, intention, and consistent effort. The book clearly explains how this is an action step, requiring us to face our defects head-on and surrender them. Step 7 follows naturally, focusing on the thoughts behind those defects. After we've made the decision to no longer act upon them, Step 7 asks us to pray and seek God’s help in removing those defects from our thoughts and minds. It’s a beautiful process of alignment – we work, and we ask for divine help to change us at a deeper level. This book has been an eye-opener for me, showing how Step 10 can be used as a constant daily practice to help us stay focused on self-improvement, while understanding the deeper meaning of Steps 6 and 7. It has given me a clearer path to follow and practical tools for making real changes. If you're looking for a way to build consistent, positive change in your recovery journey, this book is an excellent guide. Highly recommend! Review: Highly recommended - A lovely little book perfect for people wanting to improve the quality of there sobriety. Drop the Rock - a must read for anyone!
I’ve hosted two large book studies with Drop the Rock with resounding results. It’s a “thing” that sponsors blow through Steps 6 & 7 pretty quick. This book is a must for deep diving these often overlooked steps and amazingly useful for life in general for anyone. Get it, study it, and for your sake and those that know you, drop the rock!

"Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness" p.84 B.B.
It has already been said by previous reviewers but I will say it again. As we reach Step 10 we should "We have entered the world of the spirit." As the book Alcoholics Anonymous states in the next sentence "Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness." Also on p.85 it states "There are many helpful books also." This is one of them. The book as well as "The Unpopular Studies In The Last Three Steps" have helped me become much more effective in my woking up Step 10, a tool designed to help me keep my spiritual channel clear, and to continually watch for and deal with selfishness ( a character defect: an overdeveloped sense of self-interest), dishonesty (a shortcoming: an underdeveloped sense of truthfulness), resentment and fear (emotions typically associated with selfishness and dishonesty).

Unfortunate misleading stuff on Step 10
There’s an unfortunate inconsistency in the discussion of Step 10. On page 69 the author correctly points out that “a common misconception about Step 10 is that we work it at the end of each day.” He clarifies that Step 11 is where we review the day when we retire and “Step 10 is to be worked throughout the day.” Then on page 110 he muddies the water by saying that “a variety of Step 10 inventory sheets are available…to fill out at the end of the day. He goes on to list the Step 11 questions suggested in the Big Book for Step 11. There’s a “day’s end balance sheet” for Step 10 in the 12x12 (not the BB) but it’s not the same format as the Step 11 nightly review. This seems like a careless mistake since the emphasis on Step 10 for most of this book is that it to be done in the moment, throughout the day. Otherwise a good follow up to the original Drop the Rock.

This is a must read book for anyone working on Steps 6 and 7 of a 12 step program
This is not AA conference approved reading but it absolutely should be. The BB says very little about Steps 6 and 7. This book really clarifies what the steps are about. I've come to believe they are the most important steps in the program. With this book to explain, these really are life-changing steps.

I truly enjoyed reading these books! The writing is engaging and flows beautifully, The characters feel authentic and relatable, and the pacing keeps you turning the pages wanting more. What stood out to me most is the author’s ability to create vivid reality —you can picture every scene as if you’re right there. Whether you’re reading for relaxation or inspiration, these books deliver a wonderful experience
