The Silver Ladies of Penny Lane: An absolutely hilarious feel good novel Review: Fun Read! - I enjoyed reading about two older co-workers who are trying to navigate online dating sites and the men they meet. It was funny, insightful and encouraging to those who are looking for love or companionship, or maybe just a friend to enjoy life with. It’s also about feeling good about yourself and how putting in the work to help make that happen. I will be reading more of Dee McDonalds books! Review: An Enjoyable Light Read - The characters charming and the story lines are fun - elements of a great escape! I throughly enjoyed this book as a follow up to Dee’s Murder at the Loch.

Where is the ending?
Cute easy read, Tess' adventures are entertaining, but the book is lacking an ending. It's as if the author was on a deadline, ran out of time and short changed the ending just to be done. Very unsatisfying.

So good! Funny! It has a little risky verbiage but not offensive

Dee-lighful novel!
I loved this book for its funny story of two friends in their early 60s. Tess and Orla have been friends for many years, and together they run “Curvacious,” a dress shop for “curvy”, usually older ladies. Tess is the dressmaker and Orla runs the business end. Tess wants to lose weight for her daughter’s wedding several months in the future, and together they join a diet club. They also join MMM, an internet dating club for mature singles. (Tess wants to have a gorgeous man as an escort to the wedding, mostly to spite her ex and his new wife, Ursula.) The internet dating goes hilariously wrong, especially for Tess. Then, through MMM, they go on a single’s cruise to the Greek Islands, which gives the novel the depth and beauty it needs to balance out the silliness. MacDonald can write both funny and heartfelt scenes without losing the qualities of either, which I find rare in an author. The only negative I have for this novel is that the ending is abrupt, and, I think, unrealistic. All in all, though, a Dee- lightful novel!

Short-changed
I enjoyed the basic story, but after repeated episodes it began to feel as if alcohol consumption was an unacknowledged extra character in the plot, and a boring one, at that. I also ended up feeling short-changed that there wasn't more about what made the relationship with Simon special. The telling just seemed too abbreviated by contrast to all Tess's previous encounters.

Not worth the read.
Was reported to be a hilarious page turner….. I found it to be a sad view of women in their 60’s. There was no laughing out loud moments for me. I had such hope for a light fun story for my book club. I even purchased the 9 books for my friends. Disappointing for sure.

While I didn’t find the book hilarious as described, I did enjoy it. The story was light-hearted, vaguely amusing in places, although I think I’m blessed, or cursed, with too much sympathy for the characters I read about and therefore I didn’t find the experiences with the ‘dates’ that funny because I sympathised too much with Tess. But the author certainly has a good imagination for expressing the lighter side of life. The writing was good, the characters were brilliantly painted so I could ‘see’ them all and it was a relaxing and easy read; perfect for holidays or for sitting in front of the fire on a chilly evening.
