Easy to use, fast and it [STiLL] WORKS!!!
This tiny device is what I am using to get my older desktop hard drives (HDs) working so I can pull the data off them. The converter arrived yesterday, and I even got data off one drive that dates back to when I owned my very first digital camera, the DCS520!! It works fast and effectively, and it's EASY to operate, plus comes with all cables needed to use the HDs!! The HDs I plugged into the converter were 2 SATA drives, and the other ones being 2 older 3.5" IDE drives. At first I was hesitant plugging the IDE into it as the pins didn't line up. Plug the drive into the unit, plug in the supplied four pin power adapter, and the drives starts to spin, and I can see the partitions I created on that older IDE drive!! All four drives worked flawlessly and quickly on my win10 DELL laptop! Though the provided instructions gave other directions for removing the drive(s), I just ejected the drive, then turned off the unit, and pulled out the drive, and in the case of it being an IDE drive, I removed the power adapter cable too. Do not turn on your desktop/laptop with a boot (or any) drive plugged in; it will not boot up. Connect your drives AFTER booting up. It is so easy to use!!! 2019 November update: Still using this on an occasional basis BUT it reads my older internal hard drives (HDs) previously mounted inside a desktop. Quick and reliable, THIS is the best piece of computer gear I have ever purchased!!!

Product is a lifesaver!
This product works so great and so easy to use. I was able to access old hard drives and salvage so much of what I thought was lost. Highly recommend!

SATA yes, IDE sometimes yes, sometimes no.
We bought this because, like a lot of folks, over the years we've replace computers that have died and we wanted to try and retrieve data off of them. Mostly family pictures and stuff. On all of the SATA drives we used this on, it worked flawlessly and were able to retrieve the info, format the drive and be able to use the drive as a slave. The problem we ran into, like others have, some IDE drives would work and then quit working after a while. Some of the IDE we had, we were able to get most the data we wanted, but weren't able to format and save the drive. We weren't really that concerned about saving the IDE drive, but folks should be aware that for some reason, the IDE drives don't like to run for a long time on these types of adapters, as this isn't the first adapter we've tried. And some IDE drives will spin up and act like they are working, but not showing up or being recognized by Windows. As for would I recommend this one? I would. It has been far more successful than most of the other adapters we've tried.

Praise for Customer Support
The converter worked as advertised, and I was able to access old IDE drives. I also tested with SATA drives and even with two CD drives salvaged from old desktops. They worked. Then a strange event took place: A week later, I connected the converter and everything seemed to be dead. No sign of attached drives, and not even a light on the converter showing a connection. I finally isolated the power supply as the culprit. I attached another power supply with similar characteristics, and the unit functioned as expected. To verify, I attached the original power supply again, and, again, no sign of life from the attached drive. I wrote the Ugreen help line, as mentioned in the product leaflet. About a week later I received a reply explaining how to connect an IDE drive. I verified that the way I connected the drive in my tests was correct. I re-staged the tests and took pictures of the setup to send to the support line, and, just to make triple-sure, I tested the connection again. THIS TIME, IT WORKED, and with the original power supply. I am at a loss to explain the supernatural results, but I was going to write Ugreen again to withdraw my original request. THEN, TO MY SURPRISE, I RECEIVED ANOTHER EMAIL, from Kaya at [email protected], checking to see whether I was still experiencing the problem. I will send Kaya this Amazon review with the highest praise for her attention, and stating that she has acquired a loyal Ugreen customer. In the future, if I look for a product and see a Ugreen option, I will choose it without delay.

Easy to use and works as advertised.
The adapter worked exactly as advertised. I ran into some problems because the drive I was trying to access had some corrupted sectors. So, I will also have to invest in some recovery software, unfortunately. The adapter supports 3 main types of drives and would be very useful if I had more need. I was looking for a product to help me recover stored files from an external hard drive (3.5" IDE) that suffered from power supply failure. The adapter worked fine for that application. I do question its durability, but for the price, I think the advertised value is there.

Nice adapter to transfer files off of an old drive
I bought this to transfer files from my old SATA II laptop drive to a new SSD and it worked nicely even using USB 2.0. Granted, it took some time as I had about 100GB to transfer, but it worked without any other issue. I used this on a FreeBSD machine, so it should work with just about any OS. I also had a few old drives laying around that I tested it with and it worked nicely for 3.5" and 2.5" SATA and IDE drives. It comes with a Molex connector to power up old 3.5" IDE drives. I would definitely recommend this device if you are looking to transfer files off of an old drive. I don't know if this would be good for a permanent connection since it leaves the drive exposed and there is a switch on it that could accidentally disconnect the drive if turned off.

Slower than my USB 2.0 Adapter on an SSHD but not an SSD
Really slow. My USB 2.0 Adapter is faster than this USB 3.0 Adapter. It works fine but the transfers are slooowwww. I'm a bit disappointed with how slow this Adapter is. UPDATE: The more I use it, the slower it gets.I was hoping to replace my Cables2Go USB 2.0 adapter but the speed difference is negligable. UGREEN contacted me and wanted me to run a number of test's but why should I test it for them since it should be up to the challenge out of the box. I'm not a happy camper but for the price of it, I guess I'll just write it off. Hopefully this review will help someone else. Update 2: Evidently this adapter likes SSD's. When I use it with my HP Win 10 laptop ( with an SSHD to SSHD ), it is really slow and getting slower. I used it today to clone my Win 7 Pro Desktop ( SSD to SSD ) and it was really fast. Bottom line, don't expect much speed out of this adapter unless you are going from SSD to SSD.
