I didn’t have high hopes for finding a product that would make my fabric water resistant and not make it completely stiff. This actually surprised me. I tested the liquid vinyl (more like a gel) against the heat n bond iron on vinyl and vinyl fuse and found this gave me better results. The vinyl fuse seemed to lift, even after a lifetime of pressing, the iron on vinyl was better than that but still has a stiff and crinkly feel to it. This liquid vinyl really imbeds itself into the fabric, rather than resting on top, which helps keep it more pliable. I have not attempted to machine wash yet, but will update when I do. A couple things/learning curves: This stuff is messy. Like plan on it being on your hands, and I highly recommend putting a layer of parchment under your fabric. I found that my personal preference for applying it is to use a plastic putty knife or a card. That way I can really push the product into the fibers and make sure I get a nice even coat. When using a brush I found I had a lot of areas that had a thicker coating. When pressing with the iron afterward (make sure you wait about an hour after application) it really smooths out nicely. Almost like it melts it deeper into the fibers.

I had reservations about this project, but if I wanted to avoid covering these fabric seats with big towels every time our grandchildren came over, I needed to do something to protect the seats from staining. I found the HeatNBond on Amazon and bought a couple of jars to try. I first tested it on the under-side edge of a seat, allowing it to dry thoroughly. I then put some drop of red hot sauce on it and let it sit for a minute. I touched it then with a paper towel and all of the sauce was absorbed in the towel leaving no residue or stain. Next I applied one coat to one of the seats and allowed it to dry thoroughly. The fabric initially looked darker, but by the next day it was fine if only very slightly darker than it was originally. Eventually I coated all of the seats with 3 coats and they look great! They have a slightly rougher surface than before but I’m thrilled that I’m protecting our investment! I kept an extra jar so I can do touch ups if need be later.

A good product. It was easier to use than the iron on vinyl I used before. It waterproofed the fabric but keeps it soft.

UPDATE: I believe I was adding very thick layers of this and it may be easier to sew through with correct layering. I'll attempt again and update. I made a waterproof dog collar with this and it was HORRIBLE to machine sew. It said it would work, so I decided to waterproof my fabric loops before sewing my box stitches. It was absolutely awful!!! Took 6 hours to do 3 box stitches. It is a great waterproofing agent though and does the job right. I'm hopeful I can try this again with an already made collar.

I did 3 yards of fabric before cutting out my bag. Easy to apply, use foam or throw away brush. Setting with iron makes fabric smooth and still pliable. Love it. Ordered a second jar. Great for the new fabric tennis shoes people are making. Great product.

After 2 layers, drying and ironing between each round, it looks to work really well. I posted a video here and the water just glides down and does not absorb into the fabric and the other (untreated) side remained dry as well. I just used parchment paper on each side (do not iron directly on fabric). It looked wrinkled after the first application, but after it dries and you iron it out (between parchment papers) it straightened out really well. My video shows the latex-type stretch, or dried kids glue texture on the edges. What it's made of exactly I'm unsure, but it works. It has a slight, almost perfume, chemical scent but nothing too potent. *I would NOT use for handmade snack bags/edibles.* I think it's meant for keeping fabric waterproof for outerwear, I'm using them for the inner lining of cosmetic bags.

Applied to lining (quilting cotton ) for 3 waxed canvas dopp bags. Easy to apply (thin coats) and ready to iron in 45 mins between applying coats. These are gifts and hoping it holds up… I love the look and feel.

Worked as described. I bought it to preserve some precious fabric and I feel confident that it will be doing that for a long time. I am actually interested in finding other projects to try it on.
