I absolutely love this Bible. I had been searching for the right Filament enabled Bible for what seemed like a long time—including purchasing more than one that I returned or just stopped using—until I happened upon this beauty. I was in search of an easily portable edition. I needed something to carry daily in my small backpack to and from work, a bible to travel with both near and far. As a thinline this edition absolutely meets that need. I had initially purchased an edition that was short and fat. The dimensions were way off because it took up too much space in my bag despite being marketed as “compact.” Because it was short and more square than rectangular, it often got lost at the bottom of the bag and the pages would bend or get marked up. Additionally, it had “giant” print which I thought I would appreciate but actually gave me a headache! It had a design etched on the cover that I thought I liked until I got my hands on THE RIGHT ONE. Don’t let this boring brown Bible fool you! It is PERFECT. The imitation leather cover is supple! I love holding it. I’m happy when I reach for it. It feels so good and looks so good! Its small footprint takes up such little space in my backpack and the smooth cover doesn’t get caught on anything else I might be carrying. It also weighs next to nothing. The subtle gold gilt is lovely and complements the brown and slightly marbled cover, as well as the solid brown ribbon. While the Bible’s exterior qualities are impressive, open it and you will find some of the loveliest easy to read type you’ve ever seen. It’s the sort of type one would expect to see in a premium Bible and yet Tyndale has graced the market with this budget find! The paper, while thin, isn’t so thin you’re afraid to turn the pages. I have had zero issue with tearing and am never worried about that. It crackles a bit when you turn the pages but I actually like that sound. Comforting, somehow. Adds to the sensory experience! I own A LOT of bibles. Most are big and bulky and solely for home use. Some are inexpensive, others are premium. THIS ~$25 NLT Filament enabled thinline Bible with faux leather cover is the one I read MOST. Whether at home or on the go, THIS Bible has turned out to be my go-to. It’s a solid choice for any setting. If you haven’t yet used the Filament app, I can tell you it is highly useful. I refer to the study notes frequently. Although they are the same notes you can find in other NLT study bibles, the ease of use while not at home is unmatched. I love my study Bibles—The NLT Illustrated Study Bible and Life Application Study Bible, for example, are excellent and I’m glad I own them along with my other translations and commentary volumes—but nothing beats scanning your Bible page with your smart phone to instantly bring up brief notes! Just this morning I was reading Esther in my parked car before work and wondered about Queen Vashti. I consulted the app and was informed. What a time to be alive, folks! I do have a nitpick with this Bible. The paper paste down liner gets creased at the edges from use and backpack storage. The liner corners are already coming apart a bit and I have not owned that long. I can see repairing with a bit of glue and maybe some vinyl or something to reinforce a couple of the corners. But hey, at around 25 bucks I’m ultimately okay with that. Bottom line: unlike multiple things bought lately—uncomfortable tennis shoes, too-hot hiking socks—I am not disappointed with this purchase but am actually DELIGHTED.
