My children are in university now but we all still think of this beautiful book fondly.

I bought this for my 7 year old son after hearing a review of it and I have to say it is a great book. My son and I read it together everyday. It is a great tool for teaching ideas about perspective, my son had never imagined that people see things differently from him. Also my son is able to understand focalisation and the difference between direct and indirect speech, something I didn't learn until reading Joyce for my English Lit degree! There is so much to read in the illustrations that my son scrutinises every page trying to find new things. The illustrations are full of symbolism and again, this book is perfect to introduce ideas of symbolism to a child. He is now (without realising) anaylising the book by using his own ideas to work out what each symbol means. I did not even dream of teaching my son these literay techniques before I found this book but it makes it so easy to understand. My son loves this book and really enjoys reading it, he does not realise that he is learning from it. I cannot rate this book highly enough and will be buying more from Anthony Browne.

This is an excellent book to teach point of view and illustrations adding to text. The students really enjoyed the read-aloud. I then divided them into groups by character with text and illustrations . They loved the illustrations and discovered a lot by analyzing text, illustrations and author's inferences. Highly recommended!

Used this with a grade 5/6 class and then had them write their own four-perspective stories.
