Reset button to the rescue!
Yay, I got it to work! At first I could do zero games with it, even after reading the manual. The word reset is never mentioned in the manual, but is in small lettering on the back of the unit next to a pin-size hole. After pushing in the spring reset with a sewing needle when the unit was off, it was some improved. After pushing the reset when the unit was on, it worked fine on the easy level I tried. I used a separate chess board for all the pieces and used the electric board to press the start square and finish square of each of my moves and of each of the computer's moves.

Love chess but did not like this board….sorry
It is a decent board but I’m returning it….. I needed magnetic pieces because, I was going to use while traveling.. Also played 3 games as soon as I received it, but all three games ended in a mess because king became knight and pawn became bishop…..not sure, why it happened but it took attention from game to find correct positions….. I always played non electronic chess games until yesterday…… I’m trying to order another decent one and hopefully will find one ….

Perfect Gift!
We gave this to our son who is 9 and he loves it. It helps teach him how to play in such a fun way. We brought it on a trip where there was also a 17-year-old and he loved it too. So, it's great for all ages!

Doesn't work!
This was exactly the chessboard I was looking for but unfortunately can't get through more than 15 moves before it starts not recognizing the correct pieces and where they are. Had an old Saitek Kasparov that work for over 30 years that just died. This looked like the perfect board to replace it. The Lexibook Chessman Elite had all the same functions (different levels, hints, take back, training and verify pieces) except it stopped working correctly after about 15 moves. I did not check the reviews until after buying it but these problems that I'm having seems that I'm not the only one. I hoping Lexibook recognizes there is a problem and is working to correct it. I would easily pay double and buy again if this worked like my old Saitek.

"Set up" Function is "Ungood"! If anyone can work it correctly, let me know.
Nice set but the "SET UP" function instructions are impossibly convoluted. Cannot "SET UP" on black. only on white.

Satisfied customer
I ordered 11 of these for the school chess club. They all arrived in good condition and they all worked when the batteries were installed. Would have been nice if batteries were included.

I have found that this chess game makes illegal moves. I have made the board play against itself, this photo shows it suggesting that the King moves 3 spaces. I'm not happy about buying this item. What do you want to do with it regarding a replacement or refund.

The board and pieces are pretty small for adult fingers. The chess pieces are non magnetic so be prepared to drop the pieces if you were to move around with the chess board. Setup is very easy. Battery lasts for many days. It claims to have 64 levels but to me, none of these levels are challenging. I am ELO 1500. This device claims to be ELO 1800. This device is more suitable for budget user (as it costs less than S$100) and perhaps to children at chess beginner level.
