Curious to know if the Pro 700DX works well for occasional video applications. Have a D-4, and would like to take some video of my Whippet running.

Sorry this is so late, but hopefully this will help. As far as stability is concerned, this tripod won't let you down. However, for video, panheads just aren't the best way to go. This particular panhead is very smooth and will work decently for video and outperform most other panheads I have dealt with, but you're really going to want a different head for video if you intend to use this tripod.The stability and versatility you get with this tripod are phenomenal for the price. You could buy the legs only (around $100 right now on Amazon) and get a fluid video head (EI-717AH for around $75 on Amazon) and have a great video tripod package for the same price as the 700DX with the panhead. That would be the route I would go if I was planning on shooting video with my tripod.

Am I correct in assuming this works with a Canon 70 D; and with a heavy and long 200 mm zoom? Thanks.

Short answer, Yes. This tripod is strong enough to handle any 35mm format camera and lens combo (less than 20lbs of total weight). If you’re using a lens that weighs more than the camera body you should use a lens mount to the tripod head to prevent the mounting ring on the camera body from bending or warping. Also, at a rating of almost 20lbs, this tripod should work for any medium format camera and many large format cameras as well!

will this work with a spotting scope or is it set up primarily for cameras??

“In General” spotting scopes and cameras (film SLR, DSLR, mirrorless, video...) use a standard 1/4 inch attachment that is on almost all (haven’t seen one that doesn’t) tripod heads. Tripods are typically sold as a set of legs and head, but they can be found separately. Legs connect to the head typically through a 3/8 inch connector. The head to the camera or scope through a 1/4 inch connector. For a spotting scope, you’ll probably be happiest with a video type tripod head, but in general, any head should work just fine.

Is the head detachable? Possible to change heads from what comes along ?

Yes. It has a standard 3/8 inch mount so you should be able to mount any head (with standard threading) to the tripod.

I'm a real estate photographer. I buy these for all my photographers along with the Benro 3 way gear head. This tripod is sturdy and has a good build quality. If you want a good quality tripod this is it. Don't waste anymore money than this.

Stunning Value

I don't write many reviews, but this product drove me to the computer. The value received for price paid for these tripod legs is almost unbelievable. I expected good construction because this product is well regarded on Amazon as well as other retailers who sell the product. Even so, the solidness and features of this tripod are way beyond my expectations. Pros: Everything locks down very well, but is not to "tight" to release Saw a review that it gets cold, but there is foam padding to help with this. Three position adjustment on leg angle (in a $90 tripod!) Length of the center column is adjustable (bottom half screws right off) to allow pictures close to the ground. Center column is REVERSIBLE allowing shooting REALLY close to the ground I am 6'3". No stooping! This is the first tripod I've owned that has this much height. Cons: That construction quality "Pro" means a heavy and bulky tripod, meaning this is not an all occasion product. Getting out of the car and shooting - yes. Hiking to the top of a mountain at 4 am - not so much. The measurements are all in the description, but I guarantee this will be larger than you expect. That said, I recommend this product HIGHLY if you are looking for an entry level pro product. This thing has bells and whistles that I would normally look for on tripods in the $200+ range. Until I become convinced that I should trade my car for a carbon fiber tripod, I will deal with a couple of extra pounds and quietly laugh at all of the other shooters that paid WAY to much. Bottom Line -- This is a STEAL. Buy it quick before Slik figures out that it would still be a good deal at a much higher price!
